09 April 2017, CHIREDZI – Town Council chairperson Francis Moyo, once linked to Farai Musikavanhu’s campaign to snatch Chiredzi West from incumbent legislator Darlington Chiwa in the 2018 general elections, has attacked what he called attempts by Musikavanhu to gain political relevance by needlessly criticising council.
Musikavanhu was recently reported criticising corruption and unaccountability in council saying he will waiver his planned injection of US$150 000 until corrective measures are put in place.
Moyo has however came out guns blazing, ridiculing Musikavanhu for making ‘unsubstantiated’ allegations against council.
“Musikavanhu must be professional. What transparency is he talking about? If he needs audit reports, they are readily at our offices available for public consumption,” said Moyo.
He also mocked Musikavanhu saying the former Tongaat Hullet executive was broke and was spending more than he can afford in his campaign for political office.
“If he is broke, he should not hide behind allegations of irregularities that he cannot even prove. He is biting more than what he can chew,” charged Moyo.
Last month, Musikavanhu promised to inject the US$150 000 to help stimulate development in the town as well as to refurbish and/or equip Tshovani stadium, Chiredzi Polyclinic, heroes’ acre and Chiredzi General Hospital.
He has however shown reservations about releasing the cash if what he called gross mismanagement in council is not urgently addressed.
“I thought Musikavanhu was a good man. I moved around with him making some quotations for the hospital etc but as we speak, he hasn’t done anything. It seems he is trying to paint us with a black brush so as to win the hearts of the electorate. We are not responsible for Chiredzi General Hospital nor the heroes’ acre as he may want to claim,” said Moyo.politics
