09 April 2017, MUTARE – A 27-year-old pregnant Chipinge woman recently committed suicide by consuming rat poison after her married boyfriend reportedly denied responsibility for the pregnancy.
Police confirmed the death of Sharon Moyo Malanga of Green Valley resettlement area under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge. Manicaland Police spokesman Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said investigations were in progress.
“We are investigating a case where a 27-year-old woman committed suicide. The circumstances are that one Tafadzwa Nyambo (34) impregnated Malanga but denied responsibility. On the fateful day, Malanga left her home and went to Nyambo’s place. On arrival, Nyambo was not around instead she found Nyambo’s wife Memory Mhlanga.”
Inspector Kakohwa said that Malanga told Mhlanga about the pregnancy.
“Before Mhlanga could say anything, Malanga took rat killer poison and drank it. She then collapsed after a while complaining of stomach pains. Mhlanga called her husband; who was apparently responsible for the pregnancy but he found her dead. A suicidal note was found in her bag. As police, we encourage people to solve their issues amicably rather than taking their lives,” said Inspector Kakohwa.local
