09 April 2017, MWENEZI – Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. This proved true for a 30-year-old divorcee who directed her anger at her former husband’s lawyer during a maintenance dispute in the Mwenezi Civil Court.
At the centre of Passion Masara’s rage was a claim that Joel Magweva, her ex-husband with whom she has a daughter, was negligent of his fatherly duties and was compromising their daughter’s health.
Frothing with anger, Masara turned against defence lawyer Joseph Maweni whom she accused of interfering in a personal affair yet he was not there when she first met her ex-husband.
“When we divorced in 2013 you (Magweva) never saw our daughter’s face and you snatched all the child’s medical cards and now I don’t know how our daughter who is asthmatic is going to receive medication….kunditsvagira lawyer ini? Lawyer anodeyi patakadanana akanga asipo,” Masara told the court.
Maweni however interjected Masara, pleading with the court to restrain her from further insulting him as it was his constitutional right to represent his client.
Masara, who is currently receiving US$60 maintenance from Magweva for their 8-year-old daughter, wants the figure to be doubled while Magweva wants the amount to be reduced.
Magweva is a teacher at Chiredzi Government High School.
The case was due to be finalised in a few days’ time by the time of writing.local
