Zaka – The Zaka Rural District Council (ZRDC) has accepted proposals by Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) for a memorandum of understanding to establish a culture centre in the district.
A recent ZRDC full council meeting heard that council has agreed to partner the university.
In the proposal, GZU says it has a niche to promote, safeguard and preserve arts, culture and heritage and wish to develop the culture industry beginning with areas in its home province.
“We have identified arts and culture active centres within Zaka RDC,” reads part of the letter.
The proposal also hoghlights that if the university is given a chance it will construct an African architecture and ambience centre as well as conduct entrepreneurship training for artists.
It states that the university’s various schools can also come on board and assist the community by training farmers on rearing of domestic animals, bees, quails, fish and cultivating skills in weaving and pottery.
ZRDC chairperson, Sebastian Musundire welcomed the development saying they already had places like Nyabare Park which are earmarked for such projects.
“We have such kind of institutions in our plans, so we welcome the proposal,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Majaura said the issue had been sent to the planning committee to find land for the institution.news
