MASVINGO – Kyle College pupils who are in the Interact Club last week donated a bin to City of Masvingo and embarked on a clean-up campaign which saw them removing litter for the pavements and along Josiah Tongogara Street in the Central Business District (CBD).
Interact Club and Kyle College staff member, Michael Zulu said the exercise marked the beginning of other good works of social responsibility that are being planned.
“As a club, we felt that we have to do something for our city. We will do more and we will also do it for our school,” said Zulu.
He said the group valued environmental cleanliness and public hygiene so much that they had decided to make the exercise bigger in the future.
“Next time when we organise a similar programme, we will engage the wide community join us so that we will be able to cover more ground. If each and every company and organisation in town gives us one representative, the number will be big enough more visible difference.
Speaking to TellZim News after the campaign, City of Masvingo Mayor Hubert Fidze thanked the club for the gesture saying he was happy that the people were heeding calls to make the city cleaner.
“I appreciate their work and thank them for their efforts. I am happy that young people in Masvingo are recognising the importance of a litter-free city. We deserve to be the best and be the cleanest,” Fidze said.
The Interact Club is a junior club of the Rotary Club International.local
