Zanu PF Masvingo province is racing against time to raise the $100 000 required ahead of the President Robert Mugabe’s 21st birthday bash which is slated for Great Zimbabwe Monuments later this month.
President Mugabe will on February 21, 2016, turn 92 years and his birthday bash is expected to gobble over $800 000.

Of this total figure, Masvingo who are the hosts, have been tasked to raise $100 00 .
Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairman Ezra Chadzamira said the business community was responding well and was optimistic that they would surpass the $100 000 target.
“We are currently convening fundraising meetings with the business community so that we can raise the amount needed. We do not want to disappoint since we are the host province. The other provinces were tasked to raise $30 000 each but we were tasked to raise $100 000 because they know we have the capacity to source the funds,” said Chadzamira.
“I cannot disclose how much we have raised so far but the response is overwhelming and we have the potential to surpass our expectations,” added Chadzamira.
He also said that the bash is going to be held at its stipulated venue at Great Zimbabwe contrary to speculations that it has been moved to Mucheke stadium. He warned against detractors saying that they should stop day dreaming because the celebrations will not be stopped.
This comes after opposition forces slammed the extravagant bash saying that the money could be put to good use by bailing out the starving population and pay the money owed to the Tokwe Mukosi flood victims.
Sources in Zanu PF who attended the fund raising meeting held at masvingo Poly on Saturday however, said things were not well as the business community has pledged not more than $20 000.
The source however said companies also donated chickens, game meat and sugar to be used at the bash.
