Masvingo Magistrate Nomagugu Sibanda has dismissed bail to Calvin Tadiwanashe Muvheyi  a former Great Zimbabwe University student and Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) leader who was arrested on charges of inciting public violence on August 9 through a WhatsApp group called ’August 16 Masvingo’.

Muvheyi was remanded in custody to August 28, 2024 for trial completion and is being represented by lawyer Collen Maboke of Ruvengo and Maboke Legal Practitioners.

In denying him bail, Magistrate Sibanda said if released Muvheyi was likely to carry on to commit the crime since the day of his planned demo had not arrived and was a flight risk to South Africa where he recently returned from.

The State also argued that Muvheyi may interfere with State witnesses who are in the same group with him.

The court was told that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) was still investigating the matter to gather evidence.

Muvheyi is a media student graduate and had just returned from South Africa allegedly to pay lobola for his wife.
