MDC’s Chibaya blames top party leadership for chaotic structures

                     Douglas Mwonzora

Beatific Gumbwanda

CHIREDZI-MDC Alliance national
organising secretary Amos Chibaya last week blamed the party’s top leadership
for the party’s loss in Chiredzi West during the harmonised elections last
year, saying imposition of candidates which saw some disgruntled party members
contesting in the national election as independents had cost the party dearly.
Chibaya addressed party
supporters at Chiredzi Civic Centre grounds on Sunday last where he attacked
some unnamed party leaders for manipulating the party’s primary elections last
year to suit their personal ambitions, much to the detriment of unity in the
district.
“We lost in Chiredzi West and you
don’t have to blame yourselves on that but you can blame party leaders. When we
visited Tshovani Stadium with President Nelson Chamisa, he ordered for a re-run
(of the primaries) but that was not done,” said Chibaya.
Chiredzi West’s primary elections
were chaotic resulting in many candidates contesting as independent candidates.
Simbarashe Baloyi and UK-based
businessman John Manganye stood as independent candidates after Stanley Themba
won during the chaotic primaries.
The parliamentary seat was later
won by Farai Musikavanhu of Zanu PF who had prevailed in his party’s own
chaotic primaries.
At the meeting, Chiredzi district
chairperson James Kampota claimed that the opposition party’s Masvingo
provincial chairperson James Gumbi was responsible for manipulating Chiredzi
West structures.
“I personally presided over the
formation of structures in Ward 3 and everything went well there. Later on, Chairman
Gumbi called me and declared the structures null and void,” said Kampota.
Chibaya said those who supported
independent candidates should not be barred from contesting for positions in
the new structures that he said will be formed next week.
He however said those who
contested as independents were not allowed to participate as they had
technically expelled themselves from the party.
“We don’t see any reason why
those who supported independent candidates must be barred from participating in
structures. Only those who stood as independent candidates should appeal to my
office stating why they stood as independent candidates and a committee will
decide whether to admit them back into the party or not,” Chibaya said.
During a recent provincial caucus
in Bulawayo ahead of the MDC Alliance congress, party’s secretary general
Douglas Mwonzora blamed the double candidates debacle that the party suffered
in many constituencies on the then national chairperson Morgan Komichi.

Two churches emerge at divided AFM Philadelphia Assembly

Precila Takabvirakare
Several
people have been shocked by developments at AFM Gutu Philadelphia Assembly
which have seen church members attending parallel Sunday services in two tents
facing opposite directions.
The
assembly has divided itself into two camps, with those loyal to Amon Madawo worshiping
in one tent while those that follow Cossam Chiyangwa use their own tent as
well.
Sources
said that the whole drama started a few weeks ago when Reverend Murinye, who
was the pastor at the assembly, resigned and the church elders began to quarrel
on their own.
Some
Madawo loyalists told TellZim News said they were tired of the shenanigans of
the other faction and were ready to do their own thing.
“Those
who follow Madawo are tired of the other faction and we think they are also
tired of us. We used to worship at Kingdom Assembly and formed this assembly as
a way of trying to dissociate ourselves with those disagreements but it seems
the whole problem has followed us and we are broken apart once again,” said one
congregant.
Other
church members said Rev Murinye resigned after getting fed up by the endless
squabbles in the church.
“He
felt people were no longer there to serve the word of the Lord but to push
their own power agendas. It is sad that the church is losing long-time faithful
members due to the power games of our leaders. The church is falling apart,”
said another member.

Villagers threaten Chief Maranda for protecting corrupt village heads

Cephas Shava
MWENEZI– Angry
villagers in Munyamane in Mwenezi East are reportedly threatening Chief Maranda
whom they accuse of trying to protect corrupt village head irregularly
appointed by his predecessor.
The
villagers have now removed five village heads and replaced them with community
chairpersons and are reportedly threatening Chief Maranda for organising a
meeting at Chemvana to try to resolve the conflict.
Chief
Maranda, however, chose to be diplomatic when TellZim News asked him about the
matter.
“It
is true that I convened a meeting at Chemvana but it was a very minor issue.
There are some few individuals who want to influence some villagers. The most
troublesome are those from village three but the problem is small,” said Chief
Maranda.
He
was also coy on responding to reports that some angry villagers had threatened
to burn down his vehicle.
Villagers
who spoke to TellZim News, however, confirmed they removed all the village
heads and replaced them with their own choices.
“People
are now under the leadership of chairpersons whom they have installed for
themselves. Chairpersons are the ones who are now presiding over our cases here.
The former village heads were corruptly appointed by the previous Chief Maranda
after they paid him. They were crooks who parcelled land to desperate home
seekers and those people are now facing eviction,” said one villager.

ZUVA celebrates BSI certification

Diana Gondongwe
Zuva Petroleum is celebrating being the first and only company in Zimbabwe’s energy sector to be awarded three
International Standards Organization certificates by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
Zuva Petroleum
received certificates for Quality Management System, Environmental Management System
and Occupational Health and Safety Management System all at once.
BSI is a business standards company that helps organisations all over
the world to make excellence a habit in their operations.
Speaking at the
ceremony, the then Minister of Energy and Power Development Joram Gumbo said he
was aware that attaining BSI certification was easy feat, adding that the
achievement proved that Zuva Petroleum was a company dedicated to excellence.
“I am aware that
the process of attaining BSI certification is not an easy one and that what we
are seeing today is a culmination of dedication, determination, devotion and
hard work that may have started a long time ago. I applaud the hard work and
commitment that Zuva Petroleum has put to attain this status. The attainment of
the three BSI certifications emphasises
Zuva’s commitment to providing excellent products and services to its customers,”
said Gumbo.
Zuva Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) Bethwell Gumbo said the recognition showed that Zuva
Petroleum was living up to international standards.
With this certification, we are not
only a Zimbabwean company by location but an international company by
standards. We are indeed a global player.
We are happy that we are the only company in Zimbabwe’s Energy sector to
score this treble, all at once, and the first Zimbabwean company to be
certified on the new ISO 45001:2018. This is a remarkable achievement. We are
the Barcelona, Manchester United & Bayern Munich of this industry,” said
Gumbo.

Another coup looms?

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – When former President Robert Mugabe was forced out of
office by a military intervention in November 2017, the accusations were that
he was surrounded by criminals.
In the process of targeting those
criminals, Mugabe was forced out of office, a development which one can refer
to when analysing recent pronouncements by Zanu PF youths league boss Pupurai
Togarepi.
Togarepi last week came out guns blazing;
alleging that incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa was also now surrounded by
criminals.
The Gutu South Member of
Parliament (MP) issued a chilling warning to the ‘criminals’, telling them to
stop sabotaging the Second Republic.
In a public statement, Togarepi
said Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 was under siege from economic saboteurs that he
claimed were within and outside of Zanu PF.
“We were hopeful that
collectively as a nation, we would change and embrace the Second Republic and
its clear vision as enunciated by President Mnangagwa and we had a place for
everyone to ride on the train towards making this country a middle income
economy by 2030, but all the goodwill is fast dissipating as spoilers get back
to their default mode.
“Indeed, the more things change
the more they remain the same and that our people especially those in
leadership positions, be it in business or civil service are rigid and live in
a time warp with criminal mindsets and evil intentions.
“The country has correctional
facilities that are ever ready to accommodate criminals, and we have the list
of rich criminals who soon will have their day in court and find new homes in
places like Chikurubi where they rightly belong,” said Togarepi.
Togarepi said a moment of
reckoning was coming and there will be no sacred cows when the birds come home
to roost.
“A name and shame ceremony is
brewing and those who are sabotaging the Second Republic will find themselves
in places where they really belong. Forewarned is forearmed. We are aware of
these people and some occupy very high offices.
“These people will be unmasked
and the full wrath of the law will take its course because we will not allow a
few rotten apples to hold the nation at ransom. Restoration is a process that
includes total sacrifice and dedication and as a the vanguard of the party we
are prepared to bite the bullet and blaze the trail, lest we will be condemned
by future generations as the weak link that impended growth and dined with
enemies of the republic, both within and outside,” said Togarepi.
He said the Zanu PF youth league
will not hesitate to take matters into their own hands to deal with the cartels
who are profiteering while the masses suffer.
“Some profiteering elements have
created cartels and syndicates that are manipulating the economy and they are
earning millions while the broad masses suffer.
We are saying that has to stop or we as the Zanu PF youth league, we
will take the matters into our hands and strip those unscrupulous empires that
are being built with stolen money.
“Selfish tendencies by some in
both the private and public sectors should be dealt with ruthlessly,” said
Togarepi.
Togarepi’s threats come at a time
when the country is groaning under serious economic challenges that have seen
all sectors affected with no solution in sight, amid reports of an impending
uprising from the long suffering masses.

Masvingo Council management blows Nyaradzo road money

City engineer Tawanda Gozo
…implements fake road works for damage control
Diana Gondongwe
Barely
a month after Masvingo City Council erected road works signs and built a detour
from the very short strip of road from Bradburn Street to the Nyaradzo Life
Assurance Company building close by, the local authority has failed to make any
progress amid revelations that city fathers blew away the money intended for
the project.
City
fathers were embarrassed recently after questions were raised as to how the US$43
000 given to council by the life assurance company back in 2016 for the
construction of the road had been spent.
Council
then hurriedly put up structures to make it appear as if they were beginning to
construct the road in earnest, but it has since emerged that it was all about
damage control and a desperate attempt to save face.
In
the last full council meeting, city engineer Tawanda Gozo delivered a
lacklustre report claiming that the latest plans to surface the road had been
stalled by the prevailing fuel shortages.
In
an earlier full council meeting, Gozo had stammered and gave a lame response
that rains had prevented the implementation of the project for the past three
years after Ward 10 Councillor Sengerai Manyanga had quizzed him about his
appalling handling of the project.
Town
clerk Adolf Gusha also stood and gave assurances that the project was going to
be done without any further delay.
Council
insiders, however, told TellZim News the money was no longer there as it had
long vanished in the corridors of corruption.
“They
no longer have the money. It’s all gone and they don’t know what to do. Those
barriers and signs they erected on the Nyaradzo road are just an attempt to save
face. It is difficult to replace the vanished money using other council funds
because the project is unbudgeted for. It’s a scandal and heads would indeed
have rolled if our country was not inherently corrupt,” said the insider.
TellZim
News has fielded questions to the office of the Minister of Local Governance
Public Works and National Housing, July Moyo but they had not yet been
responded to by the time of going to print.

Zonful Energy in drive to eradicate paraffin use

Popular comic and actor David ‘Vharazipi’ Mubaiwa has endorsed Zoneful Energy products and services

Clayton Shereni
With power outages and load shedding resurfacing, solar
power giant Zonful Energy has launched its products in Bikita, with a target of
electrifying more than 10 000 rural households.
Zonful Energy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), William
Ponela said his organisation was on a drive to uplift marginalised communities
in Bikita district and the rest of Masvingo province by eradicating the use of
paraffin.
“We are targeting over 10 000 households here in
Bikita and we hope by 2023, everyone here will have moved from kerosene because
it is has a lot of indoor pollution. We also hope that by the time we move out
of Masvingo, everybody will have had access to cleaner energy,” said
Ponela.
Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) acting CEO,
Eddington Mazambani hailed Zonful Energy for its efforts to transform rural
communities’ access to cleaner energy.
“This is a very noble idea which plays into government’s
goal of improving access to electricity in rural communities. We are 100
percent behind such initiatives as they can actually improve the socio-economic
participation of people in rural areas,” said Mazambani.
The company works in conjunction with a Kenyan-based
solar power company Sun King and they have a wide range of solar-powered
packages which including lights, motion sensors and television sets.
Zonful Energy has so far also launched its products in
Gutu district, Manicaland province and some parts of Mashonaland provinces with
a target of solar-powering all poor communities in the country.

GZU Zinasu victory under threat

...as
Zicosu, YardSC challenge election results
Courage Dutiro
The
Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (Zicosu) and Youth Advocacy for Reform and
Development Students Congress (YardSC) have challenged the outcome of the
recent Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Students Representative Council (SRC)
elections.
The
elections, held on May 09, were won by the Zimbabwe National Students Union
(Zinasu) but the other two rivals want the election results nullified.
In
the elections, Zinasu clinched seven strategic posts including the presidency
post and the secretary general’s post but Zicosu and YardSC claim the elections
were held under conditions that were not free, fair and transparent.
A
petition filed to the Electoral Supervisory Council (ESC) by candidates of the
aggrieved unions claims that Schedule ‘A’ section 1.2 of the constitution,
which calls for the use of modern voting methods to ensure transparency, was
not followed.
“It
is upon our view that the constitution was disregarded since the elections did
not safeguard transparent and tenets of democracy. All polling stations at city
campus ran out of ballot papers and also at Robert Mugabe School only few
students voted. At down town polling station 209, students casted their votes
as per the voters roll but 298 where found in ballot boxes,” reads part of the
petition.
The
petition also claims that the polls were marred by intimidation of voters and
agents at such polling stations as the Robert Mugabe School of Education.
The
aggrieved camps claim the ESC denied many students their right to vote due to
the shortage of material.
They
allege that ballot paper inspection was never done before elections and the
quantity and quality of the ballot papers were not known to the candidates.
The
ESC has disagreed claims that the polls were not done in good faith and were
contested under protest. It has, however, agreed that the loser have a genuine
case in their questions regarding the freeness and fairness of elections.
GZU
Vice Chancellor, Professor Rungano Zvabgo had not made a decision by the time
of writing but some students have warned against nullifications of the results.
“We
know that the leadership of the university supports Zicosu which is associated
with Zanu PF. Let them not dare nullify the results as they did in 2016 when
they lost because this time around, the university will be ungovernable,” said
one student.
Zvobgo
nullified the 2016 polls citing many irregularities but the move was criticised
by some as a ploy to rescue Zicosu which had suffered heavy losses.
At
national political level, Zinasu is aligned to opposition MDC politics.

A tale of two ‘illegitimate’ Presidents

It has been one hell of a week and Mapombi has been
following the events closely ndakati zvangu zete kuno kuChitima. Wakafa havana
chawakaona chokwadi kkkk. Chinhu chaora ichi.
We now have two illegitimate presidents one running
the country and another running the biggest opposition party, the useless Joram
Gumbo was dropped and replaced by chibaba chedevelopment, chibabest Fortune
Chasi but I don’t know what magic he has up his sleeves to resolve the fuel and
energy crisis. I hope Chasi urinates petrol and or diesel because akakandirwa
nyoka mhenyu.
Mapombi is baffled, I hear we are stuck with Panonetsa
Mangudya for the next five years again after Dambudzo renewed his contract.
Cry my beloved Zimbabweans, Zanu PF has once again
successfully diverted your attention from the bread and butter issues and given
you something to fight and argue about, good job ED and team.
Mapombi is in a good mood thanks to one brave Chief
Ndiweni from the City of Kings. Murume uyu ndiye murume pane vamwe varume. He
told Dambudzo kuti I don’t recognise you kkkk and your term will be short
lived.
The Chief has been described as a national security
threat by none other than Mr IBu. Chimurume chiya ndakachivenga hangu. They
have tried to cow him down but he has remained resilient defending his people
both black and white. Stand up to tyranny Chief Ndiweni, Mapombi supports you.
I told you that there is drought of thinking in Zanu
PF which is why tapinzwa mugomba kudai. Muchinda wescarf yake uya hapana
chinoziikanwa and his wife Auxillia is fast becoming another Dr Stop it.
Kkkkk iye aripiko mazuvano warova Dr Stop it. Mukadzi
anga akaoma hake uya. Mumuromo make maiva makareruka but akatiudza hake chokwadi
about President Mnangagwa. We chose to ignore her and called her stupid but
tava kuzipigwa manje.
Mapombi being a woman of stature, would like to give
some advice to The First Lady and Health Ambassador Auxillia Mnangagwa that
this country is not their private enterprise which they can do whatever they
want with. Auxillia mumwe wangu, stay home, cook for your husband and do other
things to keep yourself busy and leave the running of the country to those who
rigged into office. Mukadzi uyu tikanatsa kumupa nguva yake anogona kutinetsa
mangwana, so Stop It!!!
But Dambudzo does not care at all. Shuwa kuwedzera
dzimwe five years on the term of office for Mangudya who has made our lives a
living hell. We thought Dambudzo would have mercy on us and fire this Panonetsa
guy but alas, kunetsa kunobhadhara wena kkkk. Takakutadzireiko iyesu nhai
Dambudzo chaita utidaro nhasi.
We should not be surprised, after all, this is the
President who once said his biggest challenge since taking over power from
Uncle Bob is being humble. By the way, the only way to power is to take it
because power is not inherited, ask Dambudzo and Chamisa.
Now Mapombi hears that they want to take power from
Chamisa kumudzosera back kuna 2014 kwaanga ari secretary for research and
policy in MDC kkkkk. Zanu PF inonzi tamba wakachenjera otherwise unonyura. They
have realised that Chamisa is a hot head and the only way to neutralise him is
to make him illegitimate. An illegitimate Dambudzo and an illegitimate Chamisa
kkkk, the struggle is real.
I don’t know anything about the law but I think this
judgement by the High Court is nothing but an insult to our judiciary system.
Zanu PF has successfully made a mockery of our police and army. We used to
respect these institutions but now they have been reduced to a laughing stock.
This is the same way our justice system is headed.
Akushaisai hope here Chamisa zvekuti mabva
mamumorongera hondo kudai. But Chamisa kachowo kanazvo, why do you refuse to
dialogue with others. But Dambudzo must be serious with the suffering masses.
How can you dialogue with the likes of Brian Mteki who got only one vote in the
length and breadth of Masvingo Province?
Mapombi doesn’t get angry easily but I was infuriated
when one of the losers dialoguing with Dambudzo recorded himself saying they
are chopping our money at Rainbow Towers Hotel in the capital. Hanzi tiri kudya
mari yenyika vana Chamisa vanchingoramba. And we expect these guys to move the
country forward? Munhu arikutovhunduka zvake hotera. They are all singing for
their supper and showering praises on Mnangagwa who apparently has captured
them all, except for Chamisa.
Chamisa has always said Dambudzo is illegitimate and
took him to the Constitutional Court but the court ruled to Dambudzo’s favour.
Now the court has labelled Chamisa illegitimate raising serious questions like,
What the hell is going on? Now we have two illegitimate presidents kkkk. Zvakuda
vakuru vanofamba naJesu izvi.
Chamisa atova illegitimate nguvai ipapa. Chamisa is an
idea whose time has come. Let him do his thing please. No amount of spanners
you can throw in his way will stop the young man. We have suffered enough and
we need change. Chero mukati illegitimate Chamisa tinomira naye. Ndiye akasiiwa
naSave. Mapombi can tell you that they just want to take all the party assets
from Chamisa’s MDC and give them to Khupe and I know fighting this case in the
Zanu PF courts is a waste of time because the outcome tese toiziva.
But I have faith in the fulcrum and the pith, Thabani
Mpofu. I like it when a young generation fight from one corner kwete zvana
Madhuku nemusoro banga hanzi Khupe is the legitimate president of MDC, which
MDC nhai Madhuku.
You can strip Chamisa of all the assets, moveable or
immoveable, but the man is very popular. The plan is to cripple Chamisa and
weaken him because 2023 Zanu ichanyara chero kubirira kwacho. Tatambura enough
mhani mazivanhu imi.
Ini Mapombi handisi dofo stereki zvekuti nyika ikanaka
I can even get a good job. Ndinotodawo kubva kuno kuChitima nekudyawo chikafu
chakanaka kwete zvemabanana akaora aya nekurarira maputi.
But chero hangu ndisiri that conversant with the legal
processes, Zanu PF ndinoitenda nekuti yatizivisa zvakawanda. Takutoonerawo
zvimwe kulaw ikoko. Mapombi can tell you that the High Court judgement is a
brutum fulmen kkkk.
I have said enough and I will end here. I can’t wait
for May 24 to May 26 tinogadza this illegitimate young man. But to Chamisa I
say, you brought this on yourself young man kkkkk. How can you say you will
drag Dambudzo to dialogue kicking and screaming? Uri mudziva reNgwena chikomana
tread carefully. Wapihwa the first warning and we wait to see how it will end.
Regai ndinokanga hangu maputi angu before ndanzi ndotaura chokwadi. Mboko
imboko.

Rutenga businessman turns to court as girlfriend refuses to release underwear

Cephas Shava
MWENEZI – A
married prominent Rutenga businessman
Goodman Maburutse, who owns the popular Linger Longer Night Club and several
booking houses, has approached the courts to force his girlfriend release his
underwear that he left at her place in Beitbridge.
The
relationship has now gone sour and the girlfriend is refusing to hand over the
clothing.
The
matter was heard by magistrate Mandlenkosi Ndlovu after Maburutse dragged her
ex-girlfriend Patricia Shumba to the Civil Court seeking a protection order.
Maburutse
told the court that Shumba was refusing to release some of his clothes
including underwear and was pestering him through unwanted visits and demands
to be formerly introduced to family members as his wife.
“Your
Worship, the woman was my girlfriend but she is constantly visiting my
workplace demanding to be introduced to my family as my wife. When our
relationship went sour, she took my phone and logged onto my Facebook account
and began to post my photos alleging that I snatched other people’s wives.
“Besides
that, she has some of my clothes which she is refusing to release. I no longer
have any peace in my life because of this woman,” Maburutse said.
Shumba
admitted visiting Maburutse and admitted that she soiled his name on social
media out of anger.
“We
were in some partnership with Maburutse but now he is refusing to give me my
money. On the issue of the clothes and underwear, I tried to give them back to
him saying some of them were missing and will only take them once I released
them all,” Shumba told the court.
After
full hearing of the matter magistrate Ndlovu granted Maburutse the protection
order and ordered Shumba not to visit his ex-boyfriend’s residence and
workplace.
Many
people believe jilted women can use their ex-lovers’ underwear to produce juju
and cast evil spells on the owners as a way of revenge.
