A Chiredzi-based
police officer is suing a Renco Mine health safety environment head of
department for having an adulterous affair with his wife.
Alfred Mutepfa
is suing Simbarashe Mbano for $10 000 for the humiliation and loss of
companionship among other things.
Munyaradzi Vengesai
of Mugiya and Macharaga Law Chambers, who is representing the plaintiff, confirmed
the matter and said they expected the matter to be heard soon.
“My client is
suing Mbano for a total of RTGS$10 000 for the humiliation he suffered when the
videos and nude pictures of his wife and Mbano circulated on social media.
He is also suing
him for loss of companionship, conjugal rights as well as love and affection
since the two separated after the incident,” said Vengesai
Sources say the
two began the adulterous affair last year when Mutepfa’s wife Excellent Mutepfa
who is a student at Morgenster Teachers College was doing attachment at Fusira
Primary School under Chief Nyajena area.
The matter is
believed to have come out when Excellent went for sporting activities and claimed
that he had been given transport money by her husband’s young brother.
On returning
from the sporting event, Mutepfa is said to have asked for Excellent’s phone
and discovered that she had been receiving money from Mbano.
Mbano is said to
have admitted having an affair during a WhatsApp conversation with Mutepfa and
agreed to pay but later on refused saying he did not know that she was married.
Excellent’s
behaviour have not only affected his husband but also other ladies who felt
that they were suffering at the hands of their husbands who think they behave
in the same manner
“I am a young
married woman from the community where this lady was teaching and where her
nude photos and video went viral. The unfortunate part is my husband wanted to
send me to college but now he is saying all women who goes to college do
likewise. I’m hurt because I was supposed to be at school now but my hopes have
been shattered because of her,” said one lady on social media

MWENEZI – A
serious brawl is going on within the local structures of the Nelson Chamisa-led
MDC, with two factions that both claim to be the legitimately-elected Mwenezi
district executive emerging.
At
the apex of the conflict are those in the outgoing district executive; district
chairperson Timitia Dziva and his deputy Alfred Chihwakwa-Sithole.
They
both contested for the district’s chairperson post during last months’
shambolic district congress and are now at each other’s throats as each
emphatically claims to be the new chairperson.
When
contacted for comment, Dziva, who is provincial chairperson James Gumbi’s
blue-eyed boy in the district, insisted he was the legitimate district leader.
“Some
people can say whatever they want but I am the one who was elected district chairperson.
Those who ran the district congress are there to testify that I won. All the
district elections are complete and we are now preparing for the national
congress,” said Dziva.
On
the other hand, Chihwakwa-Sithole, who was reportedly backing the Tongai Matutu
camp during the provincial congress held at Masvingo Sports Club on April 16, also
claimed legitimacy as district leader.
“I
can confirm that there are disagreements over the post of district chairperson but
honestly speaking, I am the one who was elected to lead. I won resoundingly and
I am the one who is currently in-charge,” said Chihwakwa-Sithole.
The
dispute between Dziva and Chihwakwa-Sithole has cascaded down to their supporters,
with the party’s WhatsApp groups being turned into strategic battlegrounds.
Several
influential MDC members told TellZim News that in the event that the national
leadership failed to swiftly resolve the row, which they described as one of
the worst in the history of the district, the party will pay dearly in the next
national elections.
It
is understood that two venues – Sarahuru growth point and Chingwizi – were used
during the district congress.
Party
members were first informed that the event was to be held at Sarahuru but new
communications directing people to Chingwizi were later made as the Dziva and
Chihwakwa-Sithole camps tussled for influence.
The
two camps ended up conducting two congresses one presided over by the Dziva
camp at Chingwizi and the other one ran by the Chihwakwa-Sithole faction at
Sarahuru.

News reported last week that disgruntled party members angered by the disqualification
of Tongai Matutu as candidate at the provincial congress and the subsequent win
by Gumbi over Simon Mupindu were plotting to run parallel structures in the
province.

– An
illicit brew called vhinyu has become a viable alternative for many people in
Rusape and elsewhere who find the new increases in the price of regular alcohol
unbearable for them.
The crude wine is said
to be so powerful that it can send the drinker into an immediate stupor,
raising serious questions about its suitability for human consumption.
The alcohol is
reportedly brewed at Sun Crest in Mutare and Matanuska in Odzi from grape
residues that are left out during wine-making processes

interviewed some vhinyu imbibers who said they were drowning their sorrows in
the cheap but dangerous substance.
“We cannot afford the
normal alcohol that we used to buy. Clear and opaque beer as well as spirits
have become unaffordable so we have no choice,” said one drinker.
The alcohol costs $1.50
per 500ml, making it cheaper than any beer, cider, wine or spirit on the formal
market.
A quart of regular beer
which contains five percent alcohol content costs an average $7 while a 750ml bottle
of viceroy brandy costs an average $40.
Broncleer, a cough
syrup with that is being abused mainly by the youth, is also said to be much
more expensive than vhinyu.
A lady who sells vhinyu
in Rusape had the highest praise for the brew, saying it was giving her a
livelihood.
 “We wake up early to go and buy vhinyu in
Mutare at either Sun Crest or Matanuska where they manufacture wine. The two
companies produce white and red vhinyu but our clients prefer red vhinyu to
white.
“A 20 litre container
costs $60 and we make a little profit out of it. Police at times raid us, but
this is our source of living. We have to find the means to get to our customers,”
she said.
Some alcohol connoisseurs
and health practitioners, however, warned against consumption of the new brew,
saying it was not being produced in accordance with set standards, and that its
alcohol content was not being measured.
“It’s a dangerous
alcoholic concoction made under the dodgiest of conditions using questionable
ingredients. It’s not advisable to drink it as it contains many impurities that
pose twice or even thrice as much risks to health as regular alcohol,” said one
expert.
A few years back, many
people died from the effects of another illicit brew called ZED which some nicknamed
Zimbabwe’s Emergency Drink which was being smuggled from Mozambique and was
more affordable than regular alcohol.

MWENEZI – People in the district are mourning the death of former Zanu PF Mwenezi West Member of Parliament (MP), Lamson Matavire who died on May 01 at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
Matavire, who was 73 years of age and hailed from Bhagadhi village under Chief Maranda, died from the effects of a stroke that he suffered a few days before.
He left behind his wife and several children.
In a telephone interview Agness Matavire, who is daughter to Matavire’s younger brother, told TellZim News that the family was devastated by the loss.
“As a family, we are deeply saddened by this loss. Our father was first admitted at Neshuro District Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was referred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he died yesterday,” said Matavire.
Although burial arrangements were yet to be concluded by the time of going to print, the late Matavire was expected to be laid to rest at his rural home.
Matavire was Zanu PF legislator for Mwenezi West from 2013 to 2018. His bid for re-election last year hit a brick wall after he lost the party’s primary elections to current Zanu PF MP Priscilla Zindari Moyo.

deputy Provincial Education Director (PED) Andrew Chikwange has been
transferred to Chimanimani district in Manicaland province.
Provincial
Education Director (PED) Zedius Chitiga confirmed that Chikwange was now in
Manicaland.
“Mr
Chikwange is now working in Chimanimani as of now where he has taken up similar
duties as those he was doing here in Masvingo. We worked with him for many
years and we wish him well,” said Chitiga.
Chikwange
started working in Manicaland when he was still stationed in Masvingo and but
has now taken up permanent office space in Chimanimani.
He
worked in Masvingo as the vice PED for more than 15 years and his former
workmates in Masvingo have described him as a good team player who worked professionally.

Masvingo couple was recently fined $200 by magistrate Rufaro Mangwiro for
pledging their 17-year-old daughter in marriage.
Brian
Chindombo (38) and Petronella Matemani (35) of number 1947, 4th street,
Sisk, Masvingo of the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church forced their underage
daughter to marry their church mate Nigel Mapuranga (38).
It
was the State’s case as presented by Andew Ndaramira that sometime in January,
the couple teamed-up with some of their church members to force the juvenile to
live with Mapuranga as husband and wife without her consent.
The
girl told the court that whenever she tried to reject the marriage arrangement,
the parents would assault her as a way of coercing her to agree.
“My
father used to beat me and threaten to throw me out of the house whenever I expressed
refusal to marry this old man,” said the complaint.
It
has been learnt that the complaint fled from Mapuranga’s house after they had
lived together for three months and went to seek refuge at her friend Faith
Hwachi’s place.
Hwachi
later advised her to report the issue to the police, leading to the arrest of
her parents.

A 66-year-old Reformed Church University (RCU) employee, Junias
Chikumbu, recently appeared before Masvingo magistrate Rufaro Mangwiro after he
allegedly molested and fondled his female workmate’s buttocks at work.
Chikumbu, a general hand at RCU, was facing charges of
indecent assault but he pleaded not guilty, and was asked to bring a witness on
May 08, 2019 for continuation of trial.
It is the State’s case that on January 28, 2019, at
around 1335hrs, Chikumbu approached a fellow general hand, Sara Hungwe who was
sweeping in a lecture room in the presence of Grace Chikaura.
Chikumbu went on to fondle Hungwe’s buttocks once before
leaving the room without saying a word.
Hungwe followed Chikumbu to the tools room where the
accused works as she sought an explanation but Chikumbu chose to remain quite
leaving Hungwe with no option but to report to her seniors.
RCU conducted a hearing into the matter but Hungwe went
on to file a police report at ZRP Masvingo Rural after seeking advice from her
husband, leading to the arrest of Chikumbu.
The State was represented by Andrew Ndaramira.

Since the death of decorated Afro Jazz music icon Oliver Mtukudzi, affectionately known as Tuku, the mainstream media as well as social media have been boosting their readership by publishing negative news of bad blood and infighting within the late musical icon’s family.
For the first time in four months after Tuku’s departure from the world, his legacy has received a positive narrative.
Calvin Mtukudzi, son to the late Mtukudzi’s younger brother, has released an Afro Jazz album called Tuku Shaa. The eight track album contains the love-themed title track Tuku Shaa as well as other tracks; Amai, Kugarira nanzva, Dende terera, Shamwari yangu, Pamuromo, Maidei and Muzukuru wangu.
 In an interview with TellZim News, Calvin revealed that Katekwe, as the late Dr Tuku called his music, should be passed from generation to generation.
“Our big father worked so hard to make Tuku Music an international brand that we pay tribute to him by carrying on the legacy,” said the 33-year-old Calvin.
The Tuku offspring started music in 2013 and takes the trade on a part time basis.
“I am formally employed but I also take time to play music with my band Jazz Peace during weekends. I keep my music and job balanced,” said the Marondera-based crooner.
The polished acoustic guitar player said he will launch his album on a date to be announced.
“For now, people can get my music at Marondera Gulf Complex Shop Number 2. I will announce the album launch date soon. I am also working towards shooting videos for the album,” he said.
Calvin, who has two previous albums named Kukungura; released in 2013, and Manamatiro; released in 2015, thanked his fans for their support. “My fans strengthened me day by day and I promise to give them quality products,” he saidi.

CHIREDZI – Successful indigenous sugarcane Rtd
Captain Faster Gono recently donated US$500 Cyclone Idai victims as well as desktop
computers worth US$800 to Chikomo and Bani Primary schools.
Gono gave the monetary
donation to Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement deputy minister
Peter Haritatos to help the cyclone victims in Chimanimani district.
He went on to donate the
computers to the two local primary schools to help motivate them as they
prepare to take part in the national quiz competitions next month.
The war veteran also parted
ways with RTGS$120 which he gave three pupils for winning the quiz competition
at provincial level.
“I deem it important to
come to the aid of our fellow citizens whose lives were disrupted by Cyclone Idai.
They need as much help as they can get from any one of us. Let’s also motivate
each other to support our primary schools so that we help them to do better.
Let’s support our children who are going to represent us at the national quiz
competition,” said Gono.
Bani Primary School head, Dr
Evangelist Svosvo said she was humbled by the support coming from well-wishers
and from Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe, the responsible authority.
She said the school had also
got help from local companies to enable them to go on educational trips in Mutare,
Bulawayo, Harare, Masvingo and Gweru in preparation for the national
competitions.
“We are still appealing
to well-wishers to donate towards our national competition. We are going around
with three children namely Albert Mutunhu, Tadiwa Tivatye and Tanaka Machocho
on educational trips in preparation for our national competition,” said Dr
Svosve.
