speaking to thousands of people in Mucheke stadium, Masvingo mayor Hubert Fidze said all the five were in stable condition.
“It’s unfortunate that five of our members from Dzivarasekwa got involved in an accident as they were coming to this rally. I visited them in Masvingo General Hospital and they are all in stable condition. One of the victims sustained a broken arm,” said Fidze.

“Let’s pray for these individuals for a quick recovery,” added Fidze.

Tsvangirai calls for nationwide demonstrations

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader Morgan Tsvangirai told his supporters in Masvingo today that he was going to support those who will gather courage to go in the streets demanding their rights from the government.
Tsvangirai told thousands of his supporters who gathered in Mucheke stadium to celebrate the party’s 15th anniversary that a lot of Zimbabweans are suffering because they are afraid of demanding their rights.
“The problem is that Zimbabweans are very docile. They have a lot of problems affecting them but they do not have the courage to confront the government. I am not calling for violent demonstrations but I will support all those young men and ladies who are prepared to go in the streets demanding their jobs, I will support those who will demand better salaries, those who demand better living conditions,” said Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai said it was high time that Zimbabweans get organised to pile pressure on President Robert Mugabe.

“The time to pile pressure on Mugabe is now,” he added.
The MDC-T leader said it was unfair for his critics to attack his party for failing to over throw Mugabe.
“Today we are celebrating 15 years meaning that we are just a teenager. We must not aim for positions, our struggle is that of excellence leadership not positions,” added Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai said he was not against the army and traditional leaders. However, he said MDC-T was against few elements that were being used to advance Zanu PF agenda.
“Just yesterday we saw chiefs being driven like cattle to Grace Mugabe’s farm where they were forced to endorse her. We also know that soldiers are beating villagers in Gutu and as a party we are calling for soldiers and chiefs to be professional,” said Tsvangirai.Politics

MDC-T ready for anniversary : Chiondegwa

By Upenyu Silent Chaota
The Movement for Democratic Change party (MDC-T) led by Morgan Tsvangirai will be celebrating 15 years of its formation in Masvingo at Mucheke stadium on Saturday September 13, 2014.
The celebrations will be held under the theme, “Towards national convergence, mobilising people for victory.”
The provincial chairperson for Masvingo, Benard Chiondegwa said that his party is now in its final stages of preparations towards the forthcoming national event.
“Masvingo has been honoured with a gigantic task of hosting the party’s 15th birthday celebrations. We are now in the final stages of our preparations towards this function and we feel honoured to be the hosts”, he said.
“We have detached teams on the streets to try and remind the people about this historic event. Our youths are putting posters all over the town so that people will be reminded and the message can reach a wide space”, he added.
Chiondegwa said that Masvingo has been ready ever since the day it was informed about this development.
“We have been ready ever since the day we were told about this development. The people are rallying behind us and we hope thousands of people will flock to Masvingo to celebrate the birthday of our party together”, he said.
“The guest speaker will be our president Morgan Tsvangirai and he will be accompanied by all the members of the National assembly”, he added.
In an interview with TellZimbabwe, Chiondegwa admitted that there has been a lot of challenges in the preparations but he hopes that their vision will not be deterred by these stumbling blocks.Politics
“It is true that the process has not been easy, we have been experiencing a lot of challenges but we have managed to work together to come up with successful preparations”, he said.
Chiondegwa also blamed ZANU PF for using state machinery to try and see to it that the event will not be a success.
“ZANU PF has used the military, the chiefs, the headman and the police to try and bar people from attending this great event. They want to make MDC to appear like a failure but our oneness will see us through and have successful celebrations”, he said.
Chiondegwa admitted that the party is in a financial crisis and that they will work hard to try and find funds and also to make sure that the guests feel very much welcome.
He also said that Masvingo province is working together with other provinces and also members of the national assembly to see to it that the celebrations will be historic.
“We are experiencing financial problems but we are sourcing funds to make sure that our celebrations will be remembered by the whole nation”, he added.

Addressing the issue regarding the split in the party, Chiondegwa said that this will not affect the turn up to the celebrations because the Biti and Mangoma’s so called “Renewal Team” has no support base.
“The split championed by Biti and Mangoma will not affect our celebrations at all because these two have no support base. It is greedy which led them to split up from this party”, he said.
“Our president will take merit of these celebrations to try and assure people that the party of excellence is still as strong as it was in fact it has become much stronger because all those people with evil intends have left”, he added.Politics

SIGH OF RELIEF FOR RESIDENTS AS WORK RESUME AT KILLER JUNCTION

0
MURRA Resident Reporter.
RESIDENTS of the country’s first urban settlement have heaved a sigh of relief after government resumed work at the Masvingo Poly killer junction to complete the construction of the roundabout.
The city dwellers had been irked by the stalling of progress at the construction site following reports that government’s $500 000 grant for the project was not sufficient and demanded accountability for the half a million dollars.
The residents demanded accountability claiming that the big part of the money could have been looted by those in high offices.
However it was with reprieve that residents have hailed the Transport and Infrastructural development Ministry for resuming work with available resources so as to curb the loss of lives at the killer junction.
“We are so much relieved that work at the roundabout has resumed and completion is targeted before the end of year. We were demanding accountability as residents. Why would such a small project injected with a huge grant take so long?” said Tawanda Gumbo a Mucheke resident.
The project was rolled out last year after government disbursed half a million dollars amid incessant outcry from residents over the loss of lives due to fatal accidents at the highly busy intersection at Masvingo Polytechnic, along the Masvingo Beitbridge road.
The intersection that links the city with Mucheke, Rujeko and other suburbs has been a night mare for motorists and pedestrians.
“We are happy that if the roundabout is completed soon, we will reduce accidents and save lives. But we really pray that the ministry officials this time around will complete it unlike the past months that work ground to a halt due to alleged misappropriation of funds,” another resident said.
Murra implored on government to meet its pledge of completing the project before that start of rain season so as to account for huge sums of public funds that were disbursed.
The resident body has however led several advocacy and lobby campaigns to the Ministry to resume and complete the construction of the roundabout for the benefit of the residents.
“We have been engaging the Transport Ministry through lobby and advocacy activities to have work resuscitated at the killer junction. We are happy that our efforts and sweat have bared fruit as the local authorities took heed to our demands. The completion of the project is not only good news to us as residents but to scores of people from across the country that pass through our city to South Africa and other countries,” said Murra in a statement.Local

Reformed Church University in clean-up campaign

0

By Moses Ziyambi
As part of a social responsibility programme, the Reformed Church University (RCU) recently partnered the City of Masvingo in a massive clean-up campaign that targeted some of the most littered places in the city.
Clad in their trademark yellow t/shirts and holding brooms, refuse bags and dust bins, dozens of members of the RCU took time to pick-up litter and sweep some of the dirtiest corners in the city.
They went around the city centre starting off at the civic centre where they picked-up litter and interacting with members of the public while singing Reformed Church hymns.
From there, they continued to Pick n Pay, OK Supermarket and Chitima market before going to Mucheke Old People’s Home where they made a donation.

In a press release, the university stressed the importance of a clean City of Masvingo that would not only be ‘a great place to work, live and play’ but would also attract tourists as a ‘world class, safe and healthy’ city.
“As the Reformed Church University, we believe that if we can change the habits and mind-sets of those people who indiscriminately and wilfully discard rubbish, we will be in a better position to invest in more important long-term recycling projects that will create employment and help save our city, the nation and the planet at large”, said Mr Stephen Chikozho, Deputy Director of Business Development, Information and Public Relations at RCU.
“With this clean-up campaign, the University, in partnership with the City of Masvingo, hopes to change the minds, attitudes and habits towards non-littering and illegal dumping, so that the City of Masvingo can do what they are paid to do by residents more efficiently and cost effectively”, continued Chikozho.
Speaking on at the sidelines of the clean-up campaign, Mr Sydney Ndhlovu, a member of the RCU, said the University was practising the responsibility that is expected of any institution that is rooted in society.
“We are here to play our part in creating the kind of clean surroundings that we would like to see in this city. It’s a responsibility for every one of us to make sure that we maintain a habitable environment free of litter”, said Ndhlovu.
After ending the clean-up campaign at the Chitima market, the group went to Mucheke Old People’s Home where they donated foodstuffs comprising Orange Crush, roller meal, laundry soap, 60 kilogrammes of rice, 20 kilogrammes of sugar and 12 litres of cooking oil.
Present during the donation was City of Masvingo Mayor, Mr Hubert Fidze, who thanked RCU for organising the clean-up campaign and showing generosity to less privileged members of society.
The Reformed Church University was formed out of a Charter given to the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) by the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) in 2010. Currently located at Morgenster Mission, about 35 km from Masvingo, the university is Zimbabwe’s fourth church-owned university.Local

Stop the madness , focus on collapsing economy!

0
By Golden Maunganidze

If you buy any paper today you are likely to read about factional politics in Zanu PF. You see politicians putting all their energy in tarnishing each other’s images. In fact, President Robert Mugabe once said that he was aware of secret factional meetings being held in dark corners where individuals plot to topple each other from positions of power.
As I see it ladies and gentlemen Zanu PF is at war with own self. Although I cannot exhaust all the fights in the ruling party, it is now common that you have to belong to a faction in order to survive politically. Although people deny leading any factions in the revolutionary party, it’s no longer a secret that we now have two warring political parties within one party. I  remember very well the poorly attended victory celebrations in Mucheke stadium recently where speaker after another castigated those who fuel factionalism in the party. Ironically, it was one faction which attended the so called victory celebrations.
As I see it ladies and gentlemen, it would appear as if my colleagues from the ruling party or should I say parties are aware that they have  to make some kind of roll call in order to find out whether everyone is still in the factional tent. However, they have to perform these rituals under the guise of victory celebrations. It is again at such meetings when those who want promotion in the faction have to memorise some poems of praise so that they would recite such in front of their faction leaders – those who can outdo others in this whole drama are likely to be elevated. As I see it ladies and gentlemen, if we are not careful, the politicians who are supposed to lead us might continue to fight for their selfish interest while our economy continues to bleed. People were hoping that ZANUPF ‘s  most popularised ZIMASSET will  improve their lives but one year down the line, signs of improvement are not anywhere near. What has taken centre stage is backbiting, denouncing each other and calling each other names.
Who shall we blame for our failure?
Zimbabweans are yearning for answers to their problems but unfortunately all they hear from the media is factional politics within Zanu PF. Remember the inclusive government is gone – all we have for our salvation is Zanu PF government. Don’t continue with the sanctions talk because it is almost a tired excuse. It would have been better to blame sanctions while showing your own efforts to improve the lives of Zimbabweans than to blame sanctions and direct all your energy to factional fights. Zimbabwe could have been a better place without these fights.
Is it that Zanu PF as a revolutionary party would want to fight at all cost – to the extent that in the absence of a strong opposition to fight, they would rather fight among themselves?
It’s now a year after the resounding victory against MDC-T and people expected to see a lot of development. Remember it did not take even six months to notice a positive change after the coming in of the  inclusive government.

Those who voted are now confused
When some of us saw brand new vehicles being donated to all people who aspired to be MPs coupled with all the things being dished out to people by Zanu PF during campaign, we thought that a party of the people was geared to lead Zimbabweans to Canaan. However, soon after victory, all the fire went off and people are at each other’s throat. Zimbabweans deserve to be respected gentlemen! Give no chance for people to ever think that inclusive government was far better than what we have today.
As I see it ladies and gentlemen, if you continue to fight like this, even ZIMASSET will not work – in fact if you are not careful the economic blueprint will remain a pipe dream.
Remember your election promises and work towards fulfilling them. We are still  waiting for the promised jobs and our industry needs to be revived. Zimbabwean professionals want their dignity and pride restored.
If this fighting is being done to shift our focus from real problems at hand, then know that the strategy will not last as people yearn for economic solutions from the government of the day.
Let me end here for now lest I be accused of yep yep or speaking too much or yep yepping if you like!!!!

City fathers snub memorial service for baby killed by municipal vehicle

HEAVY HEARTED CITY FATHERS SNUB POLITE MEMORIAL SERVICE.
MURRA resident reporter.
Masvingo residents have again expressed dismay over the city fathers’ decision to snub a memorial service for the late 10 weeks old Polite Mutezo who was crushed to death by a Municipal police vehicle.
The memorial service in honour of Polite’s life was held on 29 August this year at Mucheke hall and was organized by Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association [ MURRA ] in conjunction with Masvingo Agenda. Other organizations that took part are ZCIEA and ZCTU.
It was the absence of the City fathers and the killer Municipal cop at the function, despite being invited by the organizers that angered residents who described them as heartless people who continue to show no remorse to the Mutezo family.
“I don’t think the City fathers and their colleagues at Town house have a heart. How could they snub or turn down an invitation to attend a memorial service of the infant they killed. Its shows that they don’t even feel sorry for the family and they do not care. They are behaving like monsters,” said Tafatigere Zhou, a resident who attended the memorial service.
The city council is also under fire from the Mutezo family and the residents for its arrogance during the funeral when it failed to assist the family to meet the expenses.

Police holding the body of the baby

The council dumped Municipal police to handle the issues at the funeral alone, but residence felt that it was supposed to take the lead since the man was on duty when the incident happened.
Residence felt that as the employer that came up with the operation to chase vendors, Masvingo city council is responsible for the death of the infant but it never bothered to fork out even a cent to help the family.
As if that was not enough the City fathers this time left residents boiling after snubbing the memorial service.
“Something should be done to knock sense into the heads of the city leaders. Are they normal human beings or they are just dinosaurs who even don’t care. I think we need to deal with them,” another resident said.
At the memorial service, residents comforted Polite’s Parents and gave them hope but deplored the city council operation of chasing vendors and threatened to take action to stop the city fathers before the loss of more lives.Local
