Carl Joshua Ncube
“I saw it important that I do a nationwide tour before I go for my world tour bidding farewell to my fans as they made me what I am today. If they had not given a laughter to my jokes from the onset, I would not have been a comedian today. That is why I respect them”, said Ncube.

Biti, Mangoma attack Tsvangirai

By Moses Ziyambi
The Movement for Democratic Change’s Renewal Team leadership headed  by former party secretary general Tendai Biti took turns in attacking their former president Morgan Tsvangirai at a meeting held in Masvingo over the weekend.
Addressing people gathered at the Civic Centre, for what was dubbed the ‘Youth-Student Public Meeting’ the renewal team leadership berated Tsvangirai for participating in last year’s elections when agreed conditions for holding credible elections had not been met.
The grouping’s treasurer Elton Mangoma said Tsvangirai had no one to blame for losing elections as he was the one who stampeded the country into elections.
Mangoma also assured the gathering that Tsvangirai’s political carrier had come to an end.
“There is nowhere else that man (Tsvangirai) will ever go, he is finished. Some say he will resurrect, but the last time I checked, only Jesus resurrected. Tsvangirai will never resurrect”, declared Mangoma.
He also emphasised the need to create quality education for the country’s youth as the solution to the country’s lack of development. He attacked the indigenisation drive being championed by the ruling Zanu PF government, saying the programme has enriched a few and blocked foreign direct investment.
“They deliberately misinterpreted our opposition to indigenisation to mean we are opposed to empowerment of the people. We want broad-based economic empowerment for the benefit of all. There is inherent greed. Indigenisation in its current form will not succeed”, he said.
“There is no nation that has succeeded without educating its people. South Korea was the same as Zimbabwe some fifty to sixty years ago but it is now in the top fifty in the world technologically because they educated their people”, said Mangoma.
Jeffreson Chitando is among top officials in the Renewal Team
Taking to the podium later, Biti lambasted what he called a crises of leadership in both Zanu PF and MDC-T that has led to the rigging of elections and perpetuation of the political and economic crisis.
“I have talked about a crisis of leadership and political crisis in this country. Zanu was always going to rig but some people must take responsibility for letting that happen. President Zuma told Tsvangirai that he was not supposed to go for an election but he was adamant only to cry later saying takarohwa nezveusiku”, said Biti.
He further said the Renewal Team was looking beyond the old ways of dealing with Zanu PF as those had failed.
“When dealing with dictators like Zanu, you have to be strategic in how you remove them. We have spent the last fifteen years playing quantitative politics. The election of 2013 showed us that we need much, much more than quantitative politics. Tsvangirai is still playing draft while we are already playing chess”, said Biti.
The meeting was attended by around 150 people including some former MDC-T legislators for Masvingo Central (Jeffryson Chitando), Gutu Central (Oliver Chirume), Zaka North (Ernest Mudavanhu) and Masvingo Urban (Tongai Matutu).

Foot and mouth out break hits Masvingo

Masvingo province has been hit by a foot and mouth disease outbreak, government officials have confirmed.
The development has come as a major setback to beef producers and thousands of cattle farmers in Masvingo.
Dr Richard Maunganidze of the Masvingo Veterinary services has however expressed that they are doing all in their capacity to curb the outbreak.
“It is true that cases of foot and mouth have been recorded in the province. We however want to assure famers that we are doing all in our capacity to curb the outbreak as vaccinations to prevent the spread of the deadly disease has since started in all districts around the province”, said Maunganidze.
Dr Maunganiudze further urged farmers to report any sign of the disease to the nearest veterinary office to avoid further spreading of the disease.
“On this note, I would like to urge all famers to report any symptoms of the disease to the nearest veterinary office so as to control it before further spread”, added Maunganidze.
The Chairman of the Beef Producers Association in Masvingo, Mr Robert Makado said the outbreak has greatly affected the beef producers because they can no longer transport their cattle from one point to another.
“In the business of producing and supplying beef, the is a lot of movement of cattle from one point to another or even from province to province but now it’s difficult to move cattle because of this disease outbreak”, he said.
“The Veterinary services have issued a quarantine order against the movement of cattle and if possible the move will undergo some serious vetting and testing which has made the transportation process to take longer than necessary”, he added.
Makado also said that the sales being made by the beef producers have since dropped and if this disease is not treated in time, farmers will not have enough finances to support themselves.
“As a result of this outbreak, the farmers have faced a great challenge in selling their cattle because for them to do that they need to transport their cattle to the abattoir, a move prohibited for the time being by the Veterinary services”, he said.
“We have reports from farmers who say that they cannot afford to cater for their day to day needs because they are not selling their cattle for money”, he added.

The treasurer of the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU), Mr Henry Machingambi told Tell Zimbabwe that their organisation is trying hard to help the farmers who have their cattle affected by the disease.
“We are trying all we can to try and help the farmers who are affected by this outbreak…I also urge the farmers to co-operate with the authorities and do as they are told so as to avoid the spreading of this disease”, he said.

War vets condemn state of Masvingo Heroes Acre

…. as residents shun Heroes commemorations in Gutu
By Tell Reporters
The war veterans in Masvingo accused the government for not taking proper care of their district heroes acre saying the place which was supposed to be scared seemed abandoned.
Speaking one after another at Heroes Day commemorations at Nemanwa Growth Point recently, war veterans said they were saddened by the state of their heroes acre. They called for the government to intervene and honour the fallen comrades.
Veteran District Chairperson for Masvingo, Freddy Navhaya  told the people that all heroes suffered for the betterment of the country hence they deserved a decent resting place.
“The state should not only give someone a hero status without considering the place on which that person is going to be laid to rest…Take a look at this place, it looks like an abandoned graveyard not fit for heroes to be buried. This place should look lively considering the status of the people laid to rest here…This area is not fenced and sometimes turns into a jungle and it is only at these occasions that this place is given some attention”, said Navhaya.

He went further to say that there is not even a proper road which links the Masvingo District Heroes Acre from the main road.
He also slammed the state in which the graves are in and said that no one would like his or her relative to be buried at a shrine like this because it would be awful.
“There should be a standing committee which makes sure that this place is catered for and also see to it that this place is guarded to give life to it…These graves should have their names carved on them because right now you cannot even tell who is buried where”, added Navhaya.
Some of the graves are just piles of sand which have already been eroded by water and it is difficult to identify whether there is a grave or not.
Meanwhile, residents in Gutu shunned the Heroes and Defence Forces commemorations saying there was completely ‘nothing for them to admire from the country’s soldiers who have the habbit of beating the civilians whenever they want’.
This year’s commemorations which came at a time when soldiers ran riot beating civilians in Mpandawana town. An innocent child died while tens of people were hospitalized at Gutu Mission hospital after being beaten by soldiers a few days before the Heroes Holiday.
Some residents were appealing for the government to remove the army barracks from Mpandawana.

Jacob Moyana of the ‘Munotidako’ fame left Masvingo fans crying for more when he was invited to perform at the Marry Me Night Club last weekend.
Moyana said the show was one of his best. He was quick to thank the organisers of the show – the Masvingo Family of Artists for bringing him to the people.
“This is one of the best initiatives to be founded towards emancipating local artists in Zimbabwe and I wonder where the people behind this brainchild have been during my rise to firm. I would have loved it as I love being part of it now”, said Moyana.
Moyana urged upcoming artists to remain focused. He said they should be self reliant through innovative skills rather than to depend with big names in the industry.
“Rising stars must do away with trying to gain fame overnight.  I do urge all rising artists to be depended to the level of owning your equipment independently as I did because for you to be successful, you must sweat to some extent in life”, added Moyana.

Local artists at the show include the famous Uncle Jaunda, Dzimbabwe Sounds and Ochestra Sungura Sounds.
More acts are expected from local artists on the oncoming show which will feature sungura maestro, First Farai.
Masvingo Family of Artists lined up shows so that uprising artists brush shoulders with well established musicians. The organization took the initiative to encourage artists rising in the industry to get direct motivation from the stars they adore.

New 2014 Zimbabwean Movie Review

0
TITLE:  “Mayaya:
The Seed of Corruption” is Double the Trouble
Everyone
remembers the movie Sabhuku Vharazipi 2 and the impact it had on the Zimbabwean
community.  Perhaps one man in particular
sticks out in your mind… a special man that was there for you to critique.  That is what this screen adaptation of David
Dzatsunga’s “Seed of Corruption” conveys in a fun, nostalgic and controversial
kind of way.  David revisits the
character ‘Mayaya’ from his play of several years ago, which he created during
his high school teaching days.
Set in the
backdrop of corruption and prosperity gospel that plagues the society, Inspector
Mayaya (Denice Rusoso) is at the helm of operations at a small town police
station.  He partners with a ‘man of God’
(Kudakwashe Manhopi) in his quest for significance, power and riches. The usually
careful ‘man of God’ however makes a huge mess of things that makes life
difficult for the Inspector. Mixed up in this mess is a grave digger
(Christopher Kubvedzi) who is a hopeless drunkard but a key witness on a crime
scene that becomes the game changer for things in the small town.
Inspector Mayaya is
outstandingly played by Denice Rusoso, now a household name due to his success
on “Sabhuku Vharazipi 2.”  His acting is
very mature and shows shades of emotions very effectively. Christopher Kubvedzi
does a decent job of portraying an underpaid gravedigger, drunkard and abusive husband.  Both Kudakwashe Manhopi and Grace Matunhu
exceed normal acting entry level boundaries and pull off the disgraced town pastors
with surprising effectiveness. However it’s the gravedigger’s wife that steals
the show.  “Mai Makodhodho” (played by Tsitsi
Magaisa) is the topical woman who alters the fate of the small town.  Look for them in more movies, commercials and
TV shows to come.  I guarantee you’ll see
them.
Grace Matunhu’s
character (Mai Apostle Mazvimbakupa) is strong, but didn’t get enough screen
time to fully develop.  Mayaya’s
friendship with the pastor was never given a chance to develop either, probably
in an effort by the filmmakers to avoid focusing on irrelevant issues.  The issue of top level corruption is
addressed, but I feel that juniour officers should have had bigger, more
substantial parts.  Also, I didn’t get
the whole subplot with the pastor having bodyguards on a preaching platform and
them also being his handymen for unsanctioned church operations. It seemed like
a fictional part that was slapped on to cause more controversy.  Despite these objections, the entire
production was shot so effectively that it seemed that it genuinely conveyed the
general atmosphere of the present day Zimbabwe.
The attention to detail and the accuracy of the issues are
phenomenal.  I felt completely immersed
in this world and felt the full effect of this moving story.  Even the ‘Karanga’ accents were much better
than average.
The message of
this film is very clear and invokes plenty of approval nods to anyone who can
identify growing up in the present day Zimbabwe.  The film revolves around the scourge of
corruption, the religious phase currently characterising the country, and those
who make money through using God’s name and engage in blood sacrifices to
bolster their powers and influence.  Dzatsunga
and his creative team are certainly masters at preserving their own experiences
by writing them down for others to enjoy.
I truly believe that this story is his gift, not only to the people of Zimbabwe,
but to all who wish to bring these unholy acts to an end but were too close for
comfort.
The film is
directed by a Zimbabwe Film and Television School of Southern Africa (ZIFTESSA)
graduate Semai T Danha, a 24 year old young woman. It is produced by Magical
Films, a strong movie production house based in Masvingo.
Most films geared
for the general audience these days depend on lame, pop-culture references and
gas-passing jokes in a patronizing attempt to entertain the younger
masses.  This movie rises above all of
that to become one of the most watchable film for the general populace since Enock
Chihombori’s “Gringo the Troublemaker.”
Your date might resist going, but try to talk them into it.  They won’t regret it and neither will you.

Abandoned TelOne wires kill 20 cattle per month in Masvingo

By Upenyu Silent Chaota
The treasurer of the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU) in Masvingo, Mr Henry Machingambi said the abandoned and vandalised TelOne wires are being abused by the hunters to set traps for wild animals and in the end  at least 20 cattle in Masvingo are killed by those traps every month.
Farmers in Masvingo have therefore urged TelOne to remove their defunct landline telephone connection lines saying their availability have caused sleepless nights to farmers who are in constant fear of losing their cattle.
“It is quite unfortunate that the farmers in Masvingo and Zimbabwe as a whole are losing their cattle to snares put in place by hunters using the readily available and abandoned TelOne telephone wires. We have reported this problem to TelOne but it seems our plea fell on deaf ears…it has been seven months after  we reported this matter but no action has been made towards  removing or repairing these wires”, said Machingambi.
Machingambi added that long before ‘these wires were lying on the ground the hunters never used snares to capture animals and our cattle were much safer then’.

Masvingo farmers are losing 20 cattle every month

“Hunters started to set traps for animals because the wire was and is still at their disposal. I plead with TelOne people to take action quickly and see to it that their wires are removed or replaced quickly before hunters finish our cattle”, he said.
The chairperson for Masvingo Beef Producers Association, Mr Robert Makado said TelOne should act quickly to remove their wires because they have become a menace to farmers who are sometimes forced to kill their cattle prematurely when they find either heavily bleeding or injured by snares.
Although TellZimbabwe could not get an official comment from TelOne, sources from the sole landline telephone operator said the company was aware of the problem and logistics to have a teach which would repair the wires in Masvingo were underway. Local
