By Itai Muzondo
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti told delegates at the provincial strategic meeting held recently that Masvingo was ready to  co-host  the annual national youth games from 17 to 25 August regardless of the funding challenges which are currently on the ground.
Bhasikiti took the opportunity to appeal to the business community for donations either in cash or kind.
“It is thereby our responsibility as residents of Masvingo as represented by different stakeholder to see to it that the event is a success through our input. We also call in for the business community to help in any way they can but it’s also logical that the size of your donation tally with the size of your institution”, said Bhasikiti.

He further made it clear that besides government audits, all donations should also be publicized so as to advance clarity on donations as well as appreciating efforts of those who would have donated.
“We also wish that all donations be publicized in the press for further clarity towards donations and simple appreciation towards those who would have stretched their hands” said Bhasikiti.Sport

The cat and mouse game between Masvingo municipal police, vendors and commuter operators ended it a tragedy yesterday  as the council truck knocked and killed a child during the ugly skirmishes at the Mucheke bus terminus.
Angry vendors who had dumped their wares fleeing from municipal police regrouped after watching  an innocent baby being run over by a council vehicle. The vendors managed to apprehend the driver who they beat and went on to burn the council truck. The Fire Brigade van which arrived immediately to put off fire could not help as the angry mob attacked the driver forcing him to make a u-turn leaving the truck being reduced to rubble.
A commuter Omnibus which was parked nearby  was also caught up in the scuffle as it was also reduced to a shell.
Masvingo city mayor Hubert Fidze apologised to Masvingo residents.

Police officers with the body of the child

“I am highly pained by this loss of innocent life. I really apologize to the people of Masvingo and urge them to refrain from putting the law into their own hands. I cannot say much because at the moment we are waiting for the full report of what happened from the investigations being done by the police,” said Fidze.

Some Zanu PF MPs are hiding in Harare – Charumbira

Tell Reporter
President of the Chief’s Council Fortune Charumbira told Zanu PF supporters who gathered for victory celebrations in Mucheke stadium on Sunday that some of the MPs from Masvingo had already deserted the people who voted them in power as they prefer to live a flashy life in luxuriant suburbs in Harare.
Although Charumbira could not name the MPs who have dumped their constituencies, he said it was regrettable because the same politicians were tarnishing the name of their party.
” It’s a shame that one year down the line, we are already looking for some MPs who have dumped their constituencies. You know all of them who are putting Zanu PF in disrepute. They (MPs) have preferred to hide in Harare where they live a luxurious life while the electorate has no one to represent them,” said Charumbira.
Turning to the issue of factionalism within Zanu PF in Masvingo, Charumbira pleaded for unity. He was quick to make it clear that he did not belong to Mujuru faction but he only attended the event in his capacity as a chief.
“I am here as a Chief, I am bigger than any faction. There are people who are already saying I am here hence I sympathise with Mavhaire’s faction. No. If you invite me to your faction, I can still come,” said Charumbira.
Charumbira’s remarks came at a time when Masvingo Urban legislator Daniel Shumba was attacking Senator Dzikamai Mavhaire for propping up factionalism in Masvingo.
Shumba snubbed the event despite the fact that he was billed to speak.

Minister of Provincial Affairs for Masvingo Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Energy and Power Development Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire, Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi and some legislators known to be sympathisers of the Mujuru faction attended the event.Politics

Zanu PF MP distances self from ‘party factional celebrations’

Zanu PF factional fighting might be getting nasty in Masvingo with the latest development seeing Member of Parliament (MP) for Masvingo Urban constituency Dr Daniel Shumba announcing that he will not be associated with the party’s weekend victory celebrations in Mucheke stadium citing that the event is being organised along factional lines.
Shumba who is the first MP from Zanu PF to win the Masvingo Urban constituency seat since the formation of MDC-T has attacked party politburo member and Minister of Energy and Power Development Dzikamai Mavhaire for propping up factionalism in Masvingo.
“Let all progressive Zanu PF members know that their venerated MP Daniel Shumba will not attend that fake victory celebration to be held in Mucheke stadium on Sunday. The event was arranged clandestinely by people who continuously want to divide the party.
“I know that Mavhaire who is not an MP is mobilising councillors to bring people to the stadium but I urge those who want the development of their constituency to resist the move,” Shumba told Tell Zimbabwe .
Mavhaire could not be immediately reached for  comment.
However, Shumba said if councillors wanted to have victory celebrations, they were free to do that in their wards.

I will not attend ….. MP Daniel Shumba

“Councillors should be free to have their activities in their wards but they should approach me if they have a bigger event which they want to hold in my constituency, not to leapfrog and engage a senator behind my back.
“For the record, I killed over 20 beasts in the run-up to the 2013 elections as part of victory celebrations because I had already seen victory coming my way,” added Shumba.
Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity for Masvingo , Goddard Dunira could not deny the existence of factions in his party but he was quick to say that celebrations would go ahead even if Shumba decides to boycott.
“Factions or differences might be there but let us not take them too far. I urge people to attend the celebrations because in any case Mavhaire is senior to Shumba. Who is Shumba to challenge Mavhaire? Shumba should be humble enough to approach Mavhaire and be included in the programme,” said Dunira.Politics

A 30-YEAR-OLD mother from Chiredzi was raped and killed together with her five-months-old baby by an unknown assailant while fetching firewood in the bush.
Bodies of Vimbai Taruvinga Bande and Tinomutenda Mapfumo of Village 2 Crown Range, Triangle were found in the bush, two day later lying in a pool of blood with the mother’s private parts and panties tainted with semen.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna could not confirm the incident yesterday but sources told Tell Zimbabwe that the incident occurred on Sunday at around 12 PM. According to sources, Taruvinga left home on Saturday together with her baby while accompanying a friend Constance Masvasvuke,26 of Village 10,Pensions Triangle.
After a distance of about a kilometer, the two separated and Vimbai who had her baby on her back got into the bush to fetch firewood.
While in the bush, an unknown assailant approached and raped Taruvinga before killing both, the mother and her baby.
“Two days later,Masvasvuke proceeded to Taruvinga’s homestead where upon arrival she realised that her friend had not returned since the day they separated. She went back where they had parted ways the day the deceased had accompanied her. When she reached at the place she saw Taruvinga’s jacket on top of a bundle of firewood just besides the path towards the village,” said the villager.
Another villager said Masvasvuke called Taruvinga by her name in an unconscious belief that she was somewhere near and would respond but to no avail.

Doom!

“Masvasvuke rushed to Nicholas Tawonabonde,64 where she reported the matter. The pair teamed up and searched for Taruvinga and her baby.
After a long time they discovered the two’s lifeless bodies covered with dry Mopani tree branches. The bodies were lying a pool of blood with the blood still oozing from mouths and ears. Tinomutenda’s head was deformed while Taruvinga’s panties and private parts had semen, suggesting that she could have been raped before being killed,” said a villager.Local

Gutu teacher fired for improper association

A teacher who was based at Chiguhune Primary School was recently fired by Education officials after he was found guilty on charges of improper association. Sources say the teacher was served with dismissal letter on Thursday evening last week.
Sources privy to the case say the accused one Mr Masuka was alleged to be in love with a grade seven pupil in his class of 2013. Following a tip from other students, the school head together with his deputy carried preliminary investigations and forwarded the case to Gutu district officials whereupon it was forwarded to the head office in Harare for determination.
However, sources who spoke to this reporter argue that Masuka was just victimised by the headmaster and other teachers since there was no clear case of abuse by Mr Masuku on the child.
Cases of improper association are said to be increasing in Gutu with Masuka being the 37th teacher to be fired in Gutu district alone. This has left many neutrals with more questions than answers as to whether the statutory regulations governing the education sector are doing any good to the sector or the Education officials is being shown the reality that employing non-n professionals is not the solution to addressing the shortage of teachers as most of the culprits found on the wrong side of the law are University graduates who would not have prior knowledge of the statutory instruments governing their conduct at work.
Efforts to get a comment from the Provincial Education Director were fruitless.Local

Many dump Dabengwa, rejoin Zanu PF

The president of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union  (ZAPU) Dumiso Dabengwa has been hit by hard times as most of his top officials have decided to dump the veteran politician to rejoin Zanu PF, Tell Zimbabwe can reveal.
In a ten paged letter dated 15 July 2014, written by former national youth chairperson Tichaona Revai Sithole addressed to Dabengwa, the disgruntled members said the party was more popular for suspending and firing party cadres than it recruits.
” Why is it all people who are active and running for the course of the party are victimized and blackmailed from within? Our Party expels members more than it recruits,” reads part of the letter.
Sithole accused Dabengwa of lack of vision and dictatorship. He said members who were leaving  ZAPU felt used and abused by Dabengwa. He however, said that he had no option besides going back to his traditional home – Zanu PF. Sithole further advised Dabengwa to swallow his pride and plead for readmission into Zanu PF.

He penned the letter … Tichaona Sithole

” You and I should go and humble ourselves to ZANU PF. You to the President R.G. Mugabe and I to my province for our readmission to the party we belong since I was born and you since 1987 22 December,” said Sithole.
According to the letter, some of the top officials who left ZAPU include McDonald Muswere, Themba Dlodlo, Cyriel Ndebele, a Mr Joli, Canswell Nziramasanga, Effort Nkomo, Mehluli Moyo, Tryphine Nhiziyo and Elder Dauramanzi among others. Tell Zimbabwe is reliably informed that Dabengwa was given the letter yesterday.
This has come at a time when the former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) is  also battling to contain rebels within his political party.Politics

HELL hath no fury like a sex starved woman. A Bikita woman, starved of conjugal rights by her polygamous husband for long allegedly set the kitchen hut alight in which the man was sleeping with his second wife in a fit of jealousy.
Appearing before Judith Zuyu on Thursday Shingai Mandivengerei, 34 of Zima Village under Chief Mukanganwi pleaded not guilty to two counts
of attempted murder and arson. She was remanded in custody to 21 July for further trial. Mandivengerei is first wife to Tasara Zima, 39,the complainant and of the same area.

“I did not tie the door of the hut in which the complainants were sleeping. The door was not locked but I admit that I set it on fire and I did it because I was angry,” said Mandivengerei.
Prosecutors say a sex starved Mandivengerei last week woke up and torched the kitchen hut in which Zima and Mary Dzingai,28  of the same village were sleeping in the wee hours of the night.

“On Thursday last week, at about 8 PM, Zima and Dzingai went to sleep in their bedroom hut. On the following day at around 01.30 AM while the two were asleep, a jealousy Mandivengerei who was sleeping in their bedroom hut, woke up and proceeded to where the two were sleeping. Upon reaching the hut, Mandivengerei allegedly tied the door from outside with a wire before setting the thatched roof on fire,” said Moreblessing Rusere prosecuting.

The court heard that the fire engulfed the kitchen hut until it was razed to the ground. Local

The late National Hero Edson Sithole’s son, Garikai Musanoka Sithole who made  headlines in 2006 for suing Rhodesian Premier  Ian  Douglas Smith over the disappearance of his father during the liberation struggle is in a bid to launch a new  political party.
Speaking to Tell Zimbabwe this afternoon, Sithole said he had already mobilised people to join the structures of his newly formed Zimbabwe Empowerment Movement (ZEM) political party .
“I have already formed this party and we are going to formally launch it  in Bulawayo towards the end of this month,” said Sithole.
Sithole said it was high time Zimbabweans look for better alternative political parties since Zanu PF’s policies had failed to bring economic fortunes to the general public.

Ready to go… Garikai Musanoka Sithole

“We went to war but over three decades down the line, we still languish in poverty. Takarwa tikapedza basa todyei (We fought but after war we are still hungry.. where is the food). Very soon everyone will realise the need for an alternative political player in the name of ZEM,” he added.
