On January 15, 2025 Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) detectives arrested Tafadzwa Ndoro ( 31) of Mukono Street, Mucheke A after intercepting a bus that was traveling from South Africa and recovered hundreds of bottles of Broncleer cough syrup.
Police confirmed the recovery of the contraband that was recovered from two separate buses, belonging and to two different people, in a statement and applauded the members of the public for supplying information that aided the police to arrest the smugglers.
“We applaud and appreciate members of the public for the continued supply of information which is leading to the arrest of criminals.
“The Police will not fold its hands but will always work together with members of the society in bringing down drug dealers and users,” read the statement.
The detectives were working on a tip off that indicated that a cross border bus which was coming from Johannesburg, South Africa destined headed for Rusape was transporting Broncleer cough syrup. At Chicargo, which is 10km along Beitbridge-Harare road, a search on the bus was made.
A search on the bus led to the recovery four 20 litre sealed buckets in the boot which had 400x 100ml bottles of Broncleer cough syrup.
A controlled delivery with the assistance of the bus crew was done at Exomart, Masvingo whereby Ndoro was arrested upon collecting the contraband. The recovered drugs had a street value of US$1 600.
At around 1600hours on the same day detectives from Masvingo received information to the effect that a bus which was coming from Capetown, South Africa destined for Harare, Zimbabwe was transporting Broncleer cough syrups.
The bus was intercepted at Nyanda along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway. A search on the bus led to the recovery and seizure of three blue canvas bags containing 19 boxes of Broncleer cough syrup leading to the arrest of the accused persons who were implicated by the bus crew as having boarded the bus with their contraband. A total of 950 by 100mls (19 boxes) of Broncleer cough syrup were seized with a street value of US$ 3 800.
On January 8, 2025 police in Masvingo had arrested another man who was found in possession of crystal meth.
Circumstances are that on January 8 at around 1600hours, police detectives arrested Kudakwashe Munouya (30) of Mucheke D, Masvingo for possession of crystal methamphetamine in Masvingo CBD.
The detectives received information about Munouya’s possession of drugs and made investigations. They approached Munouya who was at Old Croco Motors, Masvingo and upon reaching him, he bolted and they later managed to apprehend him.
Two transparent plastic sachets containing 20g of crystal mathamaphetamine were recovered from his pockets with a street value of US$200 or ZiG$8000.
