Following the recent pronouncement of dates for the national assembly by-elections on January 6, 2022 that have been set for March 26, by the President, there is need for appeal to calmness and let peace reign in the nation.
Political violence that usually mar electoral contests should cease to be a thing of the past and the only way to go about that would be developing tolerance to the diverse political views, the citizenry have.
There is no need to engage in inter-party political violence or even intra-party is never condoned but is condemned in the strongest terms they deserve.
Political parties should take the leading role to educate their followers on the need to preserve peace and calmness as well as the repercussions of engaging in such activities after all we are one family, Zimbabwe.
As the elections date draws nearer, let all political activities be conducted peacefully without resorting to primitive and barbaric ways in form of violence.
Sticking to the mandate of elections in a democracy that is the right to choose a representative of own choice, the general citizenry is once more called upon to play an active role to curb the violence and refrain from being used by political players with certain agendas.
Political leaders should also bear in mind that political violence they may propagate and promote is detrimental to development as it reverses gains made on the development front especially infrastructure that suffers the brunt of the organised violence.
Restrictive and deterrent punitive measures should be employed so that offenders pay dearly for their trespasses while at the same time would-be offenders draw lessons from such.
As a result, the maintenance and preservation of peace on a national scale becomes the responsibility of every concerned citizen, hence partaking a role would do more good than harm to the nation.
