MASVINGO – TellZim News, undoubtedly the fastest growing regional newspaper for Masvingo province and the southern region of Zimbabwe, recently partnered with the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) to sponsor the RCZ-run schools athletics competitions.
As part of the agreement, TellZim News will provide trophies for the winners of the annually – held competitions.
Speaking during the trophy handover, RCZ national General Secretary (GS) Reverend Charles Juro thanked TellZim News and hastened to say the partnership will go a long way in exposing talent at RCZ-run schools in the country.
“On behalf of RCZ, I would like to thank TellZim News for the overwhelming support they are giving us. We have been enjoying coverage on different projects we undertake across the country. I have no doubt that this partnership in sponsoring RCZ Inter-Schools Athletics competitions will go a long way in exposing talent in our children,” said Rev Juro.
Speaking on the same occasion, TellZim News editor, Passmore Kuzipa said the duty of the media is to promote development in the country hence the decision to partner with any organisation or institution which is pro-development.
“Our role is to promote development; we have seen that RCZ is doing a lot of developmental projects in the country and it is our duty as media to partner such organisations in order to promote development. We have realised that some pupils are not academically gifted but have a lot of talent in various sporting disciplines. We, therefore, should support school sports in the province.
“We are ready to partner any institution which is development-oriented. We are not only limited to RCZ-run schools; even Roman Catholic, Methodist, Zion Christian Church (ZCC) and councils – run schools are welcome,” said Kuzipa.
RCZ national education secretary, Samson Shava said TellZim News has managed to put a number of RCZ schools on the map in as far as education is concerned.
“We boast of schools which produce best ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level results in the province and country at large. TellZim News, through its education section, has managed to put these excelling schools on the map. Schools like Pamushana, Chibi, Nyashanu, Gutu High, Alheit and Zimuto, to mention just a few, have been getting positive coverage. I am happy the media house has gone even a step further to partner us in the sponsorship of RCZ athletics competitions,” said Shava.
Pamushana High School are the 2017 winners after they outclassed all other RCZ-run school in the country. Next term, there will be soccer competitions and Kuzipa hinted that TellZim News will be ready to sponsor the tournament.sport
