ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane Town Council secretary Tinoda Mukutu has fired blazing shots at Zvishavane Youth Centre (ZYC) patron, Bigboy Murenga, whom he accuses of abusing the youth for selfish gains.
Murenga runs his ZYC at the council’s swimming pool compound after negotiating with Council for a take-over since the premises had been lying idle for years.
The centre says it works for the welfare of youth, their empowerment as well as providing shelter to abused children but Council has since served ZYC with a 30-day eviction notice after a fall-out.
Members of the youth institution have however defiantly told Council to give them alternative premises before they can move out and the deadline has since lapsed.
The town secretary, in an interview with TellZim News, attacked Murenga for allegedly trying to convert the premises into a beer drinking hub so that he can make money for himself
He said young people must not be deceived by selfish individuals who use them as fronts in their pursuit of self-gain.
“There is a thief hiding behind the youth claiming to drive their needs forward yet all he wants are his own selfish gains,” said Mukutu.
Murenga has however scoffed at Mukutu’s allegations which he said were shocking.
He described his work as noble; saying his concern was to work hard for the empowerment of youth in Zvishavane.
“I have never entertained the ideas that are contained in their allegations and all I wanted was to help the youth of Zvishavane. These are just words from a corrupt institution desperately trying to correct their mistakes,” he said.news
