SDA brings gospel to Masvingo

Memory Rasa

Seventh Day Adventist Church is carrying out Hope for Masvingo Campaign to be held from April 23 – May 6 2017 to spread lifestyle messages in preparation for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
The church has pitched tents at Francis Aphiri Primary School, Mugodhi Church next to Vurombo Primary School, Mucheke High School grounds, Rujeko A grounds, Eastvale Park and Shakashe SDA church.
Zimbabwe SDA Education and Communication Director Pastor Felix Njini said people need to be taught the truth about what is written in the scriptures basing on Mathew 25 verse 5.
“This campaign’s overall objective is to let people know that we are living in the last days which are written in Mathew that many unBiblical teachings and churches will mushroom everywhere to mislead people,” Pastor Njini said.
He encouraged everybody to come for the services which are open to everyone regardless of where they attend church.
“We are saying let us go back to what the scriptures really say as Christians regardless of our different churches. We are inviting everyone even those who have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour so that everyone can understand and prepare before the end of the world,” said Pastor Njini.
The services start at 17:30 and end at 20:00 and admission is free.religion

SDA constructs new boarding school

Paida Mukono

CHIREDZI – The Seventh Day Adventist Church is constructing a new state-of-the-art boarding school at the Save SDA campsite to offer well-rounded education premised on science and practical subjects, while offering elite sporting disciplines and arts education.
Situated close to the mighty Save River towards Checheche, the SDA Save campsite project will act as an extension of other projects like the church’s primary and early childhood education facilities in Chiredzi.
SDA building community vice chairperson for Chiredzi district Ishmael Moyo told TellZim News that the church had already built three blocks while plans are there for other buildings so that many children will be enrolled for quality and affordable education.
“We are yet to build the boys and girls dormitories and we are also going to construct a dining hall and a principal’s house. Our standing vision is to reach out to communities and offer them well-rounded education, grounded in sciences and practical orientation.
“The school will be opened as soon as we finish doing all the necessary work and we will begin recruiting Form 1 pupils as we work on other facilities. We have realised the need for the kind of school we are building here for parents with children in Chiredzi and elsewhere.
“We aim to maintain the high pass rate standards at our primary school and our school fees will be more affordable than what parents are getting elsewhere,” added Moyo.
Parents who spoke to TellZim News said they welcomed the school which will also offer such novel practical subjects like wildlife conservation and sugarcane farming.
“The SDA has a good record of maintaining the best standards and high levels of discipline at all the institutions it runs so I am glad that our own children here will soon have the same opportunity to gain from those same standards,’ said one parent.religion

TellZim Reporter

Sitting elegantly along the main road between the district hospital and council offices, Mhlanga’s Sports Bar has fast become the most welcoming night spot and a darling for revellers at Neshuro growth point, providing a perfect joint for a relaxed drink in clean surroundings.
The recently-opened sports bar dominates the setting with its magnificent looks and has indeed set the pace for what a model drinking spot ought to be like in this distant locale in the most scenic part of Mwenezi district.
As if to complement its glamourous outlook, the bar boasts a neatly furnished, sparkling interior with a pleasant ambience that can charm anything from the avid merry-maker to the ordinary non-drinker who seeks a convivial place to enjoy a soft drink.
“We started operating on 14 April this year but we are fast becoming popular with local people and others from beyond. We are very grateful to our customers and we appreciate their contributions to the business,” said Mhlanga’s Sports Bar proprietor Needmore Mhlanga.
He revealed that focus was now on completing the supermarket which is being built next door, with an adjacent VIP section of the bar also being worked on.
Mhlanga also said the VIP section will be designed to cater for the reveller who desires a serener environment.
“This will deal with congestion in the bar and will have all the conditions for people who want to drink in a quiet place. I believe by end of year, the VIP section and the supermarket will be fully operational,” said Mhlanga.business

MUTARE – Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Mandiitawepi Chimene has taken the blame and apologised on behalf of the Ministry of Mines over false stories of new diamond discoveries that had caused panic in Mutasa Rural District Council (RDC)’s Tsvingwe area.
Despite efforts by the Member of Parliament for Mutasa South Irene Zindi and Mutasa Rural District Council to rubbish the authenticity of the rumours, fears of possible arbitrary eviction engulfed people in the area, forcing Chimene to visit to Tsvingwe last week.
Tsvingwe Residents Association chairperson Weston Makoni expressed displeasure in the manner by which the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) had initially handled the matter.
“We were not informed at first but they just came and said we should remain at home as they would visit, but they did not show up and they passed the same message for the second time and failed to come. We were not happy in this manner because no proper consultations were done to inform the local leadership,” said Makoni.
Speaking during a briefing with the local leadership, Chimene said she was also disappointed with issue and apologised of behalf of the Ministry of Mines.
“I was also disappointed with this issue and engaged the ministry where I was told that there was nothing like that in Tsvingwe. I was told that it’s rather an exercise that is being done nationwide by the ministry carrying out mineral explorations but that was not properly communicated to the people and local leadership.
“There was, for real, a disturbance which caused panic here and I have come to apologise on behalf of the Minister (Walter Chidhakwa) and the Permanent Secretary and assure you that there will be no displacements, so continue with your developments,” said Chimene.
Reports of a whole new diamond find in the area as well as some areas in Nyanga caused immense consternation among the people many of whom still nurse fresh memories of what happened when the Marange diamonds were discovered some 10 years ago.

Mujuru coming to Masvingo

Joice Mujuru

TellZim Reporter

MASVINGO
– National People’s Party (NPP) president Dr Joice Mujuru will visit the province on May 11 at Maungwa business centre in Gutu South to address a party rally.
According to party officials, the visit is meant to commission the newly-elected provincial and national leadership and to update the people on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the party signed with MDC-T.
Speaking to TellZim News, senior NPP member Jeffryson Chitando urged people to attend the rally in their thousands.
“All people are invited to attend the rally. This is the beginning of launching our party in the rural areas and the history of the death of Zanu PF will be marked at Maungwa.
“We also urge the youth to register to vote because it is the first step to break the umbilical cord of the Zanu PF stronghold in rural areas and we believe it is the first step to bury Zanu PF once and for all,” Chitando said.
He also went on to say the rally is meant to give an address on the state economy and to launch the 2018 election campaign.politics

Man jailed for indecent assault

Memory Rasa

MASVINGO – A 33-year-old man from Sisk in Mucheke was last week jailed for indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl by forcing her to masturbate him and ejaculating on her hands without her consent.
Although he pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Masvingo Provincial Margistarte Langton Ndokera on April 27, 2016, Kevin Masabayana (33) was found guilty as charged and sentenced to 12 months of which three months were suspended.
It was the State’s case that on March 24, 2016, around 16:00 hrs, the 15-year-old girl had gone to Musabayana’s place of residence where her friend resides as a tenant but did not find her.
When she was leaving, the accused called her saying he wanted to give her his electricity card so that she could give it to her friend who had gone to the shops so that she could buy electricity.
The accused then dragged her into a room and locked the door before forcing the child to squeeze his already erect manhood and later spilled white substance on her hand.
Masabayana then gave the child a cream jacket to put on as she was shivering and told her to keep it saying it was his daughter’s which no longer fits.
The jacket was produced in court as evidence.

MDC-T bans social media

Morgan Tsvangirai

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – The Morgan Tsvangirai-led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has warned its members to desist from criticising the progress being made in pursuit of a coalition and strongly defended, in particular, the deal with National People’s Party (NPP) and Welshman Ncube’s MDC.
Many MDC-T supporters in Masvingo still harbour grudges against Joice Mujuru, leader of the NPP, accusing President Mugabe’s former deputy of being instrumental in creating the Zanu PF monster against which many MDC-T supporters have lost limbs fighting.
MDC-T national spokesperson Obert Gutu, however, said no person had the right to undermine Tsvangirai’s efforts.
“President Tsvangirai is personally handling the matter of the coalition. He has been tasked by the National Council which is the highest decision-making body between congresses.
“Our disciplined cadres should not just make negative comments about the whole process because their president is doing all he can to come to the best of terms with other opposition forces,” said Gutu.
He said the party had proper communication channels through which feedback can be made, warning that going to the media and social media platforms to make complaints was not acceptable at any level of the party.
“The president will always brief relevant stakeholders on the progress he would have made. We do not want megaphone politics where everyone gets involved and voice their opinions.
“We want strict discipline from our members during this whole process and we want everybody to rally behind our president. Going to the media to create unnecessary confusion and factionalism will not be tolerated,” said Gutu.
He said it was not the time to pick fights with other opposition forces but was high time everyone put aside differences and work towards building a better Zimbabwe.
“We know there are others who are still bitter at Mujuru but now is not the time to fight amongst ourselves when the real enemy is out there
“Mujuru may have worked with the system for a long time and has stepped on many toes but right now, our people should bury the hatchet and work towards defeating Zanu PF. The president will accommodate everyone on the negotiating table with one goal of removing Mugabe,” said Gutu.politics, topnews

Zanu PF decisive moments

Ezra Chadzamira

…as Chadzamira, Masanganise lock horns again

Itai Muzondo

MASVINGO – Candidates for the oncoming Zanu PF chairmanship elections in Masvingo have expressed diverse attitudes to the exercise, with former chairperson Ezra Chadzamira exuding confidence while his likely rival Rtd Colonel Mutero Masanganise has remained largely indifferent.
The election re-run, which is set for May 6, is expected to finally bring closure to the problematic chairmanship position which has seen countless sackings and counter-sackings over the past two years.
Speaking to TellZim News, Chadzamira said he had put everything in place to make sure he wins the election.
“I am a politician and I am always ready for elections. Pertaining this week’s election, I have always been ready and raring to go. It is everyone’s wish to win though it is the cast vote which determines one’s victory so as of now, I can confirm that all I am waiting for is election day. I have worked so much for to make sure I win,” said Chadzamira, who is widely tipped to win the election.
His possible competitor, Masanganise however was more reserved in his response to calls for a comment, choosing to say people should wait and see how events will unfold.
“Why do you rush to know what I am doing? Isn’t the day coming? If you agree with me that the day is coming, wait and see what will happen on the day and write about that,” Masanganise said before hanging up the phone.
Insiders within Zanu PF, however, told TellZim News that Masanganise was no longer interested in taking part regardless of Joramu Gumbo’s warning that no one will be allowed to pull out of the race.
At a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting recently, Gumbo also made it clear that no new candidate would be registered to contest in the election.
“To tell us that you will be pulling out of the election won’t be welcome at this point. Your concerns have been sent forward to the highest offices so that a resolution can be brought forward and after all these meeting which the President even set for, who will you be to say you are pulling out of the election? No new candidates will contest either,” Gumbo said.
Gumbo, who is the current interim chair for Masvingo, also promised party members that once a substantive chair is voted in, the party will then work to put structures back into shape.
“I know you have many other worries but as soon as we pass this phase, many other pressing issues will be dealt with,” said Gumbo.
Masvingo has had no substantive chairperson since the then provincial leader Calisto Gwanetsa was sacked in 2014 on allegations of working with the ousted Mujuru faction.
Gwanetsa was replaced by Paradzai Chakona who was also sacked for allegedly abusing party resources.
It was Chadzamira who replaced Chakona before a vote of no confidence was passed against him and was replaced by Amasa Nenjana but as factional flames raged further, Nenjana was also sacked and was again briefly replaced by Chadzamira.
This was before the politburo intervened and called for an election to choose a non-disputed chair, appointing Jorum Gumbo to oversee the new election.
The election was held and provisional results saw Chadzamira taking an unassailable lead against Masanganise but the results were nullified after many districts were said to have failed to vote due to logistical nightmares caused by floods.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa pulled a shocker after chanting a pro-Chadzamira slogan while giving closing remarks the PCC meeting.
“Pamberi, neZanu PF, musi wa6 Chadzamira muoffice,” said Mahofa said before explaining herself to a seemingly concurring audience.
“Yes, I said Chadzamira muoffice, kwaari ndiko kune ruzhinji. KuZanu PF ukangoona woenda kune vashoma wotoziva kuti warasika ndosaka ndataura kuti Chadzamira muoffice.”politics, topnews

Furniture with a feminine ambience, the Shanna way

Shanna Mazorodze

Moses Ziyambi

The furniture-making business, like any other business for that matter, has traditionally been a dominion of men who are viewed as innately endowed with carpentry skills as well as the entrepreneurial repertoire required to commercialise its products.
But if there is a woman who has shredded that belief and defied the odds to become a successful furniture entrepreneur, it is none other than Shanna Mazorodze, an able business woman and mother to many children.
A devout Christian and member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), Mazorodze has established herself as a business woman of note with her Triple T Furnishers being known for its unique luxury home and hotel furniture of original designs that suit diffentiated tastes.
Mazorodze’s achievements at one time saw her establishing shops in many towns including Mutare, Harare, Kwekwe and Zvishavane before the business downsized significantly to consolidate operational costs and improve the quality of products and services.
She holds a Business Studies qualification which she however gives little acknowledgement in her journey to success, opting instead to give credit to her strong Christian faith and her God-fearing and supportive husband for her numerous larger than life breakthroughs.
“My story would not be complete without an emphasis on what God has done for me. Mine is a story centred on God’s grace for He has blessed my various exploits and my ambitions. I never leave the house for business matters without kneeling before my husband so that he prays for me and anoints me. I thank God for the man of God, the great high priest in my house. No woman would travel the journey I have travelled without the Lord’s favour,” said Mazorodze.
“I praise the Lord for He gave me a supportive husband who picked up on the vision and has been a pillar of support in all my exploits,” she said.
A connoisseur of the finest furniture designs, Mazorodze’s passion has taken her all over, with a stint at Glorious Couches in South Africa which was manufacturing lounge suites for Southern Africa helping her to hone her skills in furniture manufacturing.
“I have just ventured into furniture manufacturing so that I can be in a position to supply big business. I have also made it a point that I make the furniture from locally-sourced material so as to support local industry and create jobs.
“I aspire to be better than all the big established furniture businesses in the country so I am putting in place plans to open new shops and resuscitate business that was affected by the economic difficulties we are experiencing as a country,” Mazorodze said.
Her expertise has also seen her being called to do some work for giant furniture businesses like Greatermans, Bourbours, Meikles and Coloursell as well as universities.
Mazorodze grew up in Harare before migrating to Masvingo where she got married to Dr Farai Mazorodze, son to the late nationalist and great medical practitioner Dr Simon Mazorodze.
She is also an expert in interior designing, wedding planning and soft furnishing; having worked on many prominent weddings doing  dazzling décor and having done interior decorations of many big houses.
Lately, she was amazed and grateful when she was selected to be part of the designing of the house that was used by President Robert Mugabe during the Zanu PF 16th Annual National People’s Conference in Masvingo as well as where both the two Vice Presidents of the country where staying.
“I am very good with, curtains, vases, mirrors, carpets and all those nitty-gritties that you want in your house to give it a smoothness touch. I love designing and making things beautiful,” said Mazorodze.
She is a woman with a great heart too, being a mother to many children most of whom she, together with her husband Dr Mazorodze, adopted through Masvingo General Hospital and the Department of Social Welfare.
While many successful people use their properties for nothing but social status, Mazorodze’s big homestead is a place where many people find some comfort, with her husband allowing her to use it to accommodate not only disadvantaged children, but to house pastors from different denominations during their conferences who also use the available swimming pool for baptism sessions free of charge.
“I have learnt that there is so much happiness in doing what is good and extending the privileges we enjoy in life to the less fortunate,” Mazorodze said.business

Women Breaking Barriers – Knowledge out of dry bones with Aquiline Chimwanda

Archaeology is the scientific study of human life by looking at artifacts, and the man-made objects that people who lived long ago have left behind. Archaeologists strive to investigate and preserve the finite and fragile clues of former cultures in order for us to understand our link to the past. They investigate historic as well as prehistoric sites.
The Masvingo-born Chimwanda, who is now doing her PHD in Archaeology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa says archaeologists are like detectives. By looking at artifacts, they try to figure out how long ago people lived, how they governed themselves, what art they created, their religious beliefs, their technology, science, and invention, and their daily life. Clues archaeologists use to answer these and other questions about past civilisations can sometimes be found in the artifacts they dig up.
Growing up, Chimwanda says she had passion for bones and loved old things or structures, and had a bone collection at home which she saw as beautiful though she could not relate it to any archaeological value then.
Professional archaeologists work in a wide variety of settings and can be employed by government agencies,   museums and historic sites, colleges and universities. Some archaeologists work as consultants or form their own companies.
Chimwanda says clarity of vision is a virtue and her advice to young women is that success is not in gender and a woman has to discover her interests in life and work to achieve her goals.
