…as car crashes mourner

Brighton Chiseva

ZAKA – A real life rendition of the American blockbuster  ‘Death at a funeral’ was witnessed last week  when a village head who was attending the burial of a deceased villager was accidentally killed when a car hit him at the deceased’s homestead last Sunday.
Although police confirmation could be found as provincial police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula was out office by the time of going to print, Zaka RDC ward 19 Councillor Peter Imbayarwo said Patrick Chilo had gone to Mapunga village, Chief Ndanga’s area, to pay condolences.
Imbayarwo said a nephew to the deceased’s husband, who had his car parked nearby, asked his uncle – the deceased’s husband – to get into the car for a photo shoot.
“The widower was sitting on the front seat as they took pictures. We suspect that the car had been left in reverse gear and he could have stepped on the pedals resulting in the car moving,” Imbayarwo said.
Other reports said as the photo shoot continued, the car started to move in reverse and ploughed into four unsuspecting mourners, killing Chilo instantly and injuring the other three.
By the time of writing, two of the injured victims had been discharged from Musiso Hospital while the other one was still admitted. Chilo was due to be buried yesterday (Wednesday).local
