Stop the madness Cdes!

Cdes, you must stop this madness. Stop it!
Mapombi will forever remain a gentleman – handivanzi. You have to stop this corruption madness.  Mapombi is very sure the late Vice President Simon Muzenda is turning in his grave – Nhai mbuya Nehanda Nyakasikana zvichazova zvariniko…nyika vakatora vakagovana pahukama hwavo isu vana vemutema tichidya nhoko dzezvironda. Chero minda yenzimbe vari kungogovana pahukama hwavo!
But dzimwe nguva kupenga kwakanaka because haunei nezvakawanda – all you need is some rotten bananas and a dirty place like Dr Grace Trading Market to sleep. Ko kutyei munyika yakawana independence 36 years ago.  O-oh yes we are now independent to do corruption and all sorts of vices and go scot free as long as card remusangano riripo chete. All you need is to flash the party card and you will get away even with murder. Kikikiki asi vamwe vakaponda vanhu in 2008 vava kunzwisa tsitsi vakomana! Mapombi akange nani – kupenga kusvika pakurasa nhumbi here veduwe? But it’s fun because these guys will never learn munoramba muchingoishandiswa vamwe $15 billion vachingodya.
By the way, any news about the $15 billion that disappeared from our diamonds? You mean the Head of State and Government, Commander of the Defence Forces, the Chancellor of all universities who is also the Zanu PF’s First Secretary and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency President Robert Mugabe, has no clue whatsoever about the $15 billion whereabouts??? Sorry to bore you with these endless titles but muchazvinzwisisawo kana mava kutonga. Asi mari yakaenda kupiko iyi?  Even the President doesn’t know where the $15 billion is – haaa zvinoshamisa izvi. Please Prophets Magaya, Makandiwa and Angels help us on this one – please don’t even attempt to tell us kuti the money disappeared because of corruption.
Iyo nyaya yecorruption yanetsa vakomana. Mapombi heard the offer letters for the sugarcane farms are now out. At least 90 offer letters were in gogo Mahofa’s office by the beginning of this week. Mapombi also heard that more others were expected before week end so that the majority of the 138 farmers on waiting list get the offer letters.
Mapombi however, heard some allegations of corruption ipapo – hanzi hama dzema shefu edu dzange dzisipo pawaiting list were the first to get the offer letters. Yes; the sons and daughters of those in power had their offer letters processed first before the 138 farmers that have been on the waiting list since 2012. Haa murombo munhu vakomana haavigwe asina kupfeka. Bva imi munazvo ndimi henyuzve mokora? Chidyai kana kana mazosiya mozopawo varombo.
Mapombi is getting a lot of detailed information these days – kupota uchienda kuBenjamin Burombo Building kunobatsira. Mapombi wanted to see gogo Mahofa to try and negotiate for a better accommodation because kwaDr Gire hakuchaita vakomana kwava kuti kutonhora then kunhuhwa.
While busy looking for gogo Mahofa’s office in the first floor kusaziva kuti office yava paground floor, Mapombi heard some disgruntled guys saying all sorts of names to gogo Mahofa. Some of the words were unprintable accusing her of corruption. Mapombi heard mwana wavo akatowana munda wenzimbe, waOppah and this other guy Pedzisai anoita zvekubikira president uyu hanzi they all have offer letters even though they were not on the waiting list – ungavadii? Chinobhowa ndechekuti vaiva vatengesi ndivo vave kubenefita vakarwa hondo tichinyimwa minda yenzimbe.
But Ngwena ndomahwani manje – Mapombi heard he told maWar Vets kuti there is nothing special about you Cdes that you need preference paminda yenzimbe. Chete makaroiwa newakafa dai ari mupenyu ainzwa tsitsi mukarutsiwa. Mapombi just pray that the wave of corruption iri kubata vanhu iyi hairambe iripo or else tingaita kufarira n’anga neinondobata amai.

Masvingo family appeals for help for son’s heart surgery

Theresa Takafuma
For 13-year-old Tafadzwa Manyenga, life has been all about getting in and out of hospital since he was five years old, when he suddenly developed a heart problem that has seen his family accumulating a hospital debt of over $3000.
Whilst his peers are already in Form One, Tafadzwa has not yet started Grade One as he can hardly walk due to a heart ailment which doctors say needs an operation. The operation has since been slated for the 26th of April this year.
His mother, Makashava Chaputsira (36) says Tafadzwa spends a month and a half to two months for at least three times a year because of his heart condition, and this has been a very difficult situation for the family both financially emotionally.
“We live in the Sell Camp resettlement area under Chief Charumbira and the nearest hospital where he can be treated is Masvingo General Hospital, so many times he is admitted for monitoring by the doctors,” Chaputsira said.
“Sometimes he is referred either to Mpilo Hospital or Harare Hospital and at both hospitals I have an equal debt of about $1520, whilst I also owe Masvingo General Hospital over $1500,” said Chaputsira with tears welling in her eyes.
Chaputsira produced text messages she receives from the hospitals reminding her of the debt.
One of the messages read: “MANYENGA TAFADZWA you’re given 24hrs to pay $1,011.20 owed to Harare Hospital. refTW 1210 at No. 66 McChlery Ave, Eastlea to avoid being taken to court.”
Chaputsira said her husband does gold panning and can hardly afford to put food on the table for Tafadzwa’s four siblings, making it nearly impossible for them to raise $600 that is needed for him to be operated before the end of this month.
Tafadzwa cannot do without medication, towards which his mother said she has to fork at least US$21 per month for the pills only. She also has to regularly pay for injections.
“There are three categories of pills needed at a time with the cost being $9, $7 and $5 respectively. This has taken a toll over the livelihood of the family. My school-going children’s fees are paid by the church as we cannot afford it,” she said.
“From 2010 to date, that has been our lifestyle and a bit of relief came when we were told that he needs to be operated in October 2015, but still we could not afford the bills,” the visibly distraught mother said.
Chaputsira added she was advised to give Tafadzwa a special diet of cabbages, Mazoe Orange Crush and fruits to help keep him out of hospital in order to avoid accumulating hospital bills.
She said her three-year-old daughter, Tafadzwa’s sister, is more familiar with the hospital environment than home as she often has to accompany her and Tafadzwa on their numerous hospital visits.
Tafadzwa’s family only hopes for a change after his operation, which his mother said will be a turning point if all goes well.news

Rupike: The green oasis of Masvingo South

Moses Ziyambi
Rupike Irrigation scheme in the south of Masvingo province is probably one of the few farmlands that have remained productive as most farmers in this drought-stricken province rue the losses of the El Nino-induced drought which has wiped out most crops and some livestock.
Situated in Ward 23, Chief Nyajena area, the scheme sustains 100 families on 200 hectares of irrigated farmland which produces Gloria ‘sugar’ beans and OPV maize seeds among other crops.
The farmers are engaged in contract farming which requires them to produce the seeds for sale to agro-dealers.
“This scheme is sustaining not only the farmers and their families but the wider society as well. We mainly grow plant seeds but whatever we produce here is sold to the local community first before we go anywhere else,” said Luke Chawatama, Chairman of the scheme.
In a place where crops in the surrounding communal lands have failed, many families are also benefiting from temporary work at the scheme.
The scheme began operations in 1992 and was established by Anglo Ashanti in the late 1980s after the construction of Tugwane dam from which water for irrigation is drawn.
Anglo Ashanti are the owners of Renco Mine, which produces gold.
“We are happy because all the work is done here. We do the treatment and packaging of the seeds before we send them to the dealers,” said Chawatama.
Ward 23 Councillor Tichaona Machingambi said he would like to see more land being put under irrigation to improve food security.
“It’s no longer sustainable to rely on rainfall alone to produce food. We are looking for partnerships to create more irrigation schemes like this one,” said Machingambi.news

Chiredzi chiefs up in arms with RDC over CAMPFIRE proceeds

Increase Gumbo
Chiredzi chiefs have lashed out at Chiredzi Rural District Council (CRDC) accusing the council of misusing funds from the Community Management Programme for Indigenous Resources (Campfire) at the expense of ordinary people.
The chiefs are alleging misappropriation of proceeds from the heritage preservation projects, saying communities are benefiting nothing from them.
The complaints came up during a stakeholders meeting attended by the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri at Gonarezhou National Park last week.
Chief Sengwe said CRDC should stop the corruption he claimed is rampant in the handling of CAMPFIRE proceeds.
“We are gaining nothing from CAMPFIRE, we are told that there is CAMPFIRE but none of my communities has benefited from this. Who is benefiting from it? We want hard cash to build schools, roads and to develop our communities,” said Chief Sengwe.
He demanded that authorities handle the CAMPFIRE proceeds in a transparent manner saying profits from the projects are benefiting top council staff only.
Minister Muchinguri, who echoed the displeasure at the way the funds are being utilised, ordered Council to put everything in order and give communities their share.
“This is bad if this is what the council is doing. Give the people their share of the project and you should sit down with the communities and show them what you get so that there is transparency,” Muchinguri told Council officials.
CRDC Chief Executive Officer, Isaac Matsilele however denied the chief’s claims saying what they get from CAMPFIRE is very little but they make sure that the communities benefit in a proportionate way.
“It’s not like the communities are not benefiting at all. The funds are very little but the people want something better which cannot be met by the little we have,” he said.
Matsilele said council was working on building bigger programmes which will benefit many communities not only those who stay in the environs of wildlife areas as CAMPFIRE does.news

Rupike Irrigation Scheme calls on ZESA to install pre-paid metres

Lloyd Shunje/
Vimbai Gwatiringa
Rupike Irrigation Scheme in Masvingo South has proposed that the Zimbabwe Electricity and Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of ZESA, introduce prepaid meters at the scheme to enable farmers to better manage their power usage.
The irrigation scheme, which draws its water from Tugwane Dam, accommodates 200 families, with each farmer paying a substantial amount in electricity bills every month.
Chairperson of the scheme, Luke Chawatama said they have since asked ZESA to install the metres because farmers are finding it hard to cope with exorbitant electricity charges.
“With prepaid metres, we will be in a position to manage usage better and we will be able to save power and channel the money to other projects.
“We have three water pumps that draw water from the dam. Those pumps need to be serviced so we can’t spend all that we make on electricity alone,” added Chawatama, hinting that the community doubts the accuracy of current metre readings.
Mike Chiwawa, Rupike irrigation Scheme resident Agricultural Extension Officer said if the dam level does not improve, the scheme will have no choice but to cut back production and focus on crops that do not require a lot of water.
“The dam is 37 percent full and if it remains like that, we will have to concentrate on crops that require less water because we need to save water for the winter cropping season as well,” Chiwawa said.
Shallow-rooted crops like beans require less water than deep rooted ones such as maize.news

Social welfare officers corrupt: Zaka MPs

Brighton Chiseva
Zaka legislators say they are receiving reports from various wards about social welfare officers who are corruptly distributing social welfare food aid, depriving the intended beneficiaries who are mainly vulnerable people like orphans and the elderly.
The officials are reportedly disregarding the welfare lists provided to them by village heads and councillors so that they can smuggle in their own people.
“They are rude and do not abide by lists provided by councillors and kraal heads, you find that some 90 year-olds are not receiving food aid while able-bodied people are benefiting,” said Zaka South MP Samson Mukanduri.
He mentioned one case when all people in Wasarira village in Ward 25 were omitted from the list despite some well-deserving people living there.
“Sometimes they condemn the whole village if they have issues with the village head and they will randomly select those they want to benefit. Why punish innocent villagers because of one man,” said Mukanduri.
Zaka Central legislator Paradzai Chakona said he once visited a distribution centre in Ward 9 and noticed able-bodied young people receiving food and was told that officials had tampered with the lists and put their own relatives and friends.
“There were a lot of complaints in that regard. We want comprehensive investigations to begin so that those who are found abusing their positions are prosecuted,” said Chakona.
Robson Mavhenyengwa of Zaka North said an officer who was put in charge of distribution in Ward 3 in Ndanga rejected the list and used his own.
“He compiled his own list of friends and relatives that he later used,” said Mavhenyengwa.
Vincent Mawere of Zaka West urged people to be proactive in identifying and reporting cases of corruption to save the programme from saboteurs.
“Let’s unite and find solutions to our own problems and let’s do all that we should do to save this programme,” said Mawere.
Meanwhile, villagers of Ward 1 in Gutu have disrupted a distribution programme in protest over corruption by social welfare workers.news

Tsvangirai meets GZU students

…bemoans poor social, educational standards at varsities
Upenyu Chaota
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader Morgan Tsvangirai bemoaned the collapse of social and educational standards when he met Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) students at the party provincial offices in Masvingo last Sunday.
Tsvangirai castigated President Robert Mugabe and his government for failure to improve students’ welfare and vowed to improve the social and educational standards of tertiary education in the country.
“The social and educational standards at universities have deteriorated like never before in the history of this country. University programmes being offered these days are not different from literacy adult education due to lack of resources and we want to transform that so that our institutions are well-resourced in order to deleiver quality education. We want universities to produce students that are compatible with the labour market,” Tsvangirai said.
“We are going nowhere as a country because the graduates we are producing every year are roaming the streets and they have no jobs. Our priority is to create jobs as soon as we get in government,” Tsvangirai added.
MDC students’ council treasurer, Cheers Chiutsi, told Tsvangirai that they are being suppressed by other students especially from Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (ZICOSU) who are being financially assisted by some Zanu-PF members.
“Students are being robbed by being made to pay full fees while on attachment when they don’t use some of the things they pay for. ZICOSU members always disrupt our activities on campus and they overestimate their powers simply because they are being funded by some members of Zanu-PF. Recently we clashed with them when they tried to interrupt our meeting and some of our people were arrested. The university security and the police are biased so we have no security,” said Chiutsi.
He added that most tertiary graduates are not compatible with the ever advancing technological innovations of the labour market.
Tsvangirai said the future of the students is bleak if they do not stand up and defend their rights.
“When I was with the workers, Mashava was a thriving mining community and now it’s a university, what a contradiction. If you close a mine and establish a university, what are you producing? That is the problem with our economy, it’s not able to produce because it has been destroyed systematically by the Mugabe regime,” Tsvangirai said.
He added that the government should go back to giving student grants not as charity but as a demonstration that the government is investing in its future.
“It’s not an act of benevolence for the government to give students grants. Every university in the world gives grants to students so that there is no class distinction at institutions”, he said.
The meeting was conducted with riot police roving the vicinity.news

Gutu man found dead in middle of road

Tafadzwa Nyikadzino
A shocking incident took place in Chatsworth as a lifeless body was found lying in the middle of Chatsworth-Kurai road in what is suspected to be a hit and run case.
The incident took place between 13 and 14 April when Funmore Munyaki (30) of plot 10 Swaaveden in Chatsworth was found dead in the middle of the road, with scars on the skull, hands and several injuries on his body at the 4km peg along the Chatsworth-Kurai road at around 5 in the morning.

The body of the deceased was seen by Joseph Tavingei who lives at the plot where the deceased lived, and reported the issue to Chatsworth Police and Gutu traffic police.
Acting Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and said the police were suspecting the cause of his death to be a hit and run.
“His body is still in Gutu for a post-mortem but investigations to establish the cause of his death are still underway” said Dhewa.

Chiredzi to become green belt of Zimbabwe – VP

Increase Gumbo
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week described Chiredzi as a potential green belt of Zimbabwe with a capacity to provide food security for the entire country.
Speaking during a tour of the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) Nandi Estate in the district, Mnangagwa said Chiredzi could feed thousands of people through efficient use of its flat lands and full exploitation of its untapped water resources.
“Chiredzi can be a green belt of Masvingo Province or even Zimbabwe because the area is blessed with many flat lands, good weather and many wetlands. There are many unused water bodies which when utilised will turn Chiredzi into the bread basket of Zimbabwe,” said Mnangagwa.
The Vice President toured the Nandi Estate which now has 150 hectares of developed land after Arda entered into a partnership with Mangwa Quip to resuscitate the estate which had been lying derelict for almost five years.
Mnangagwa urged other companies to emulate Mangwa Quip and quickly develop the area.
He praised Mangwa Quip Director Denford Masiya, saying if more farmers and business people with his spirit could be found, Chiredzi would become the bread basket of Zimbabwe.
“Let us have more people like Masiya; look at this estate which has been lying fallow for close to five years being developed in less than one year,” said Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa said government was determined to develop Chiredzi and Mwenezi through full utilisation of water bodies, saying government will provide the necessary equipment.
“The government is committed to the development of these two districts. The farming equipment which will be provided will be paid for over a specific period,” said Mnangagwa.news
