CHIPINGE – Zanu PF Chipinge Rural District ward 24 Councillor Lydia Hlekisani has been accused of bashing a fellow party member Tendai Simango over the ownership of a flea market stand at Checheche business centre.
Simango, who is confined to a wheelchair after she was involved in a truck accident coming from a rally in Chipinge last year, got into an altercation with Hlekisani who had allegedly seized and rented her flea market to another person identified as Madzibaba Chamu.
The matter was reported to Chisumbanje police station on September 3 but no arrests had been made by the time of going to print.
Manicaland Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said he had not received the case but was confident the local police will deal with the matter very well.
TellZim News learnt that after Simango discovered that her market place had been taken, she tried to reclaim it but Madzibaba Chamu allegedly assaulted her, claiming that Hlekisani had given it to him.
This was reportedly followed by more assault by Madzibaba Chamu and Hlekisani herself.
Simango told TellZim News that she had pleaded, in vain, with Hlekisani to protect her from the beatings and to help her find money to buy the medication she requires.
“Vakandirova ndavati iwe unoziva dambudziko randinaro nezvakaitika pandiri and ndiwe waitofanira kundibatsira kuwana madonor anopa mari. Hautinyori paunouya madonor apa wonditorera musika wangu zvekare ndopaakabva andirova nestick yemop nemagreen bar esipo mumusoro nemaoko,” said Simango.
Repeated attempts to get a comment from Hlekisani yielded nothing as she kept dropping the calls when the reporter tried to get her to speak about the matter.local
