In a disturbing incident, a man has been arrested for teaming up with his daughters to brutally murder his parents, whom they accused of witchcraft.
The horrific family tragedy unfolded when Rameck Chidinhika(53), aided by his three daughters, Constancia Chidinhika (28), Vimbai Chidinhika (19) and a juvenile (15), assaulted his parents in their home and left them for dead.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and the arrest of the accused persons for fatally assaulting Tizirai Chidinhika (77) and his wife Miriam Polisiri (92) on October 11, 2024.
“On October 11, 2024 at around 0700 hours in Chorupanga Village Chief Nyajena, Renco, a couple, Tizirai and Polisiri, were severely assaulted by their son and three grandchildren to death,” said Dhewa.
Circumstances are that Rameck and his children teamed up and went to confront the now deceased persons at their homestead. They allegedly accused the couple of possessing goblins which were causing misfortune in the family.
Rameck and his daughters assaulted the two with switches, logs and a hoe all over their bodies. The now deceased persons sustained deep cuts and several fractures as a result of the assault. The four left the elderly couple lying unconscious on the ground and they went back to their homestead.
The couple’s neighbor who witnessed the assault called the police who then arrested the father and his daughters.
The bodies were taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital Mortuary for post mortem.
Police also confirmed a separate incident that happened in Chiredzi, where a dead body was found in a state of decomposition inside a house at a plot and appealed to members of the public to supply the police with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects as it is a suspected homicide
“On October 11, the body of Jabson Bunukwa Kwangwari, a male aged 35 years of Village 1, Runhare, Chiredzi, was found in a state of decomposition inside a house at a plot by his employer, Christopher Nyathi (75) years of Westwood, Chiredzi.
“The police urges members of the public to supply information so that the perpetrator or perpetrators may be brought to book,” said Dehwa.
It is alleged that on the day in question at around 0800 hours Christopher Nyathi observed that there was a swarm of flies and a stench coming from the now deceased’s house. With the help of the police, the door which was tied from the outside, was broken and the body of the now deceased was found in a pool of blood and it was in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body had a deep cut on the back of its head and on its arm. His trousers pockets were hanging and property was scattered all over the house. The body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for post-mortem.
