10 April 2017, ZVISHAVANE – There was excitement last week when the Pure Platinum Play 2017 squad was unveiled at Mandava Stadium in front of fired-up supporters.
The unveiling was followed by a 1-0 win over Dynamos at National Sports Stadium last Sunday after the platinum miners were awarded a penalty which was converted by midfielder Winston Mhango in the second half.
The squad consists largely of players who had been there in the 2016 season save for Brett Abdul Amidu, Talent Chawapihwa, Spencer Ngwerume and Lawrence Mhlanga.
Club chairperson Evans Mtombeni told the media that he wants the club to lift the next trophy and become the best club in the country and in Africa.
“I’m looking forward to collecting maximum points in all our matches and lift the championship so that we become the best in Africa,” said Mtombeni.
Club head coach Norman Mapeza emphasised unity among the players, supporters and executive members so as to achieve the goal of winning.
“I want to encourage our players and supporters to unite and work as a family towards this cause. If we win, we do it as a team and if we lose, we lose as a team. We should not insult each other because wars do not take us anywhere,” said Mapeza.
Meanwhile, club president George Mawere handed over six buses to the team. The buses will be used to ferry the team and its supporters to their away games.
“Over the years, we have been hiring buses for the transportation of our players and the executive whenever there was an away match. This sometimes resulted in delays since the buses would at times not be fit for the road, said Mawere.sport
