NMMZ holds regional quiz competition

April 2017, MASVINGO – Gutu United Primary School last week won the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) regional quiz competition held at the Great Zimbabwe world heritage site after beating six other schools.
Gutu United outshone its closest competitor Morganster Primary School which came out second.
Professor Raphinos Alexander Chabaya, who was guest of honour, congratulated Gutu United Primary School for its hard work.
“Congratulations to the winning school. The level of competition was impressive, a factor which raises the profile of our heritage in the region,” said Chabaya.
The team comprised of three Grade Seven pupils namely Tapiwanashe Muranda, Prince Furamera and Dylan Chikutu who are all in Grade Seven pupils mentored by Florence Chimbwari.
Other competitors were Rudhanda from Zaka, Rutenga from Mwenezi, Museti from Bikita, Bani from Chiredzi, Masunda Nort from Chivi; each school representing its district.
NMMZ Southern Region Director Lovemore Mandima thanked N.Richards Group and FBC Bank for sponsoring the competition through cash and kind.
“This event has been made a successful through our main sponsors N.Richards and FBC Bank. It is very hard to gather financial support for special events like these and we thank them for coming along,” said Mandima.
The event was preceded by an NMMZ-sponsored awareness campaign at to enlighten the community on how environmental hazards are threatening the site.
 “This is one of the oldest and famous World Heritage Site and should be safeguarded from environmental threats. Currently, we are under threat from lanatana camara, stray cattle, veiled fires and littering which can shorten the lifespan of this great site,” Mandima said.local
