Church of Christ Run Masvingo Christian College, Head Pastor Dr Edson Muresherwa
graduated with his ninth degree, a Master of Philosophy in Theology from Great Zimbabwe
University, adding to a growing list of qualifications in education, business, human resources
and theology, as he continues to inspire young people to embrace lifelong learning.
Dr Muresherwa graduated on October 23 adding to his academic achiements in education,
human resources management, business administration and theology. He is currently studying
for a Master of Science in Counselling Psychology.
In an interview with TellZim News, Muresherwa said his passion for further studies was driven
by his desire to develop people and inspire young people to pursue education.
“As a school head, I am involved in the business of developing human capital and developing
people. The purpose of my life is to uplift other people, which means developing other people.
“If you want to develop other people, you have to develop yourself fully. That gives me the
motivation to continue studying. As I do that, I am also motivating young people, challenging
them to realise that if an elderly person like me can continue studying, then they can achieve
great things,” he said.
Dr Muresherwa said his decision to study theology came after he had attained several
qualifications and began reflecting on the importance of deepening his spiritual understanding.
He said a pastor’s teaching about the rich fool in the Bible prompted him to consider whether
academic achievements alone were enough without a deeper understanding of God’s word.
“I asked myself whether I would become a rich fool if I studied all these things and then decided
to rest and enjoy the fruits of my education without seeking the Lord more. I decided to go to
Bible College, looking for keys to unlock the Bible,” he said.
His theological journey saw him obtain a Bachelor of Theology from Reformed Church
University before proceeding to Great Zimbabwe University, where he completed his MPhil in
Theology.
Muresherwa said he wanted to ensure that his preaching was based on a sound understanding of
scripture, just as his work as an educationist required knowledge and professional competence.
“I want to make sure that when I stand at the pulpit, I preach things that I know and understand,
just as I do in my work as an educationist,” he said.
His academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Instructional Leadership from the
University of the Free State in South Africa, a Master of Education in Educational
Administration, Planning and Policy Studies from Zimbabwe Open University, a Master of
Science in Human Resources Management from Midlands State University and a Master of
Business Administration from Zimbabwe Open University.
He also holds qualifications in life coaching and mentoring, human resources management,
education, program and project monitoring and evaluation, and pastoral studies.
Dr Muresherwa said learning was a continuous process that should not be limited by age or
previous achievements saying learning is like eating. As long as you are living, you cannot stop
learning.
He said he hoped his academic journey would encourage young people to invest in their
education and realise that they could achieve their goals through continuous learning and
personal development.
