Zaka – Kundai Makado, a Lower Six pupil at Musiso High is nursing serious wounds she sustained following a brutal beating by a teacher and her mother after she was accused of going out of school bounds without permission and taking alcohol.
Pupils who spoke to TellZim News narrated the events leading to the brutal incident saying she did not deserve such treatment.
Others called for justice, threatening a strike if the matter is not handled fairly.
It is said that the girl was accused of having gone for Catholic games held in Gutu recently together with 24 other pupils where she allegedly took alcohol and even brought some to the hostel.
When the matter came to light she was reportedly assaulted severely by one of the teachers at the school.
It could not immediately be ascertained why it was only Kundai who was badly beaten.
It is also said when the girl’s mother heard about the matter, she visited the school and also assaulted the girl with a jambok believed to have been provided by the same teacher.
It is further revealed that the girl was detained for three days in the hostel and was denied permission to go to hospital as school authorities feared the nurses would alert the police.
A tip-off by some concerned staff members saw education officials visiting the school but the extremely injured girl was again hidden in the ‘Senior Lady’s office.
They were however alerted by some students about Kundai’s whereabouts and the officials in turn alerted the district schools inspector, James Mahofa who attended the scene.
Efforts to get comment from the school head Immaculate Tinago were fruitless by the time of going to print.
Other pupils who spoke to TellZim News said Kundai suffered serious injuries in the face and body including between the legs.
The pupils questioned the reliability of the school’s security if 25 pupils could escape from the school and go for days without being detected.
This is not the first time a case of alleged abuse of pupils at the school has been reported.
In 2012, the headmistress was charged for assaulting a pupil.
In a document addressed to the ministry of education, she pledges that no corporal punishment will be inflicted outside the provisions of circular 35.news
