MWENEZI – Five villagers from Kutanga village, Ward 1 have lambasted their village head, Jefius Ngomani and Chief Chitanga for irregularly selling land some of which is meant for grazing.
Appearing in the Mwenezi Civil Court was Thandiwe Machava who was seeking a protection order against Makaveni Kutanga, Enock Mubikwa, David Ngomane, Lungisani Ngomane and Charles Kutanga.
In her application, Machava told the court that the five respondents were frequently disrupting activities at the residential stand allocated to her by the village head.
The five respondents admitted disrupting activities at Machava’s stand and accused the village head of corruptly selling the stand without even considering the impact of his actions on the environment.
“The land was previously cleared of inhabitants and reserved for the grazing of our animals. We have many animals but the grazing area is no longer sufficient yet the village head continues to irregularly sell the land. We tried to engage Chief Chitanga over the issue but he ignored us. We do not know where to report now because the chief and the village head seem to be working together,” said Mubikwa.
After warning the five defendants to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, Magistrate Honest Musiiwa granted Machava the protection order.
He advised the respondents to take their case to the district administrator (DA)’s office if they had any grievances against the two traditional leaders.local
