Bishop Pedzisai clarifies construction of ZAFM church

0

Upenyu Chaota
Zion Apostolic Faith Mission (ZAFM) Bishop Jameson Pedzisai, who is brother to Archbishop Ezra Pedzisai, has shed light on the construction of the Museva headquarters in Chivi saying contrary to media reports, Chivi Rural District Council Chairperson, Killer Zivhu did not build the church.
Bishop Pedzisai said ZAFM was given building material in 1986 to build a learning community hall but with time people decided to use the hall as a church since there was no proper place for worship services.
“I want to set the record straight here. Let it be known that the ZAFM Museva headquarters in Chivi was not built by Zivhu but the initial construction begun and was completed way back in 1986.
“We hear media reports saying Zivhu built the church and I begin to wonder where the people are getting the information from. At the time the church was built, Zivhu was doing Grade 4.
“This church was first built by the late Bishop Dorius Pedzisai Shoko. As the number of people increased, the mother union of the church decided to do extensions on the church building and they bought cement and asbestos and Mr Simbiso Matambanadzo did the construction,” said Pedzisai adding that the extension was done between 2002 and 2003.
“Between 2009 and 2010 we started building toilets and that was when Zivhu chipped in and donated cement for the job. In January this year, Zivhu offered to refurbish the church saying he was a friend of our father and wanted to do plastering and repainting of the church in his memory.
“We deeply appreciate what he has done for the church because the building was looking very old and now it’s looking good. I have taken it upon myself to clarify the matter so that people will not be subjected to a distorted history,” added Pedzisai.
After the refurbishment, the church was officially handed over in March with Zanu-PF Deputy Secretary for Women Affairs Eunice Sandi Moyo standing in for the First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe as the guest of honour.news

“VaMayaya Nhaka Ndeyani” launch this Friday

NAMA award nominee writer and director Charles Munganasa’s long-awaited film is set to be launched on Friday 29 April.
Produced by Nelned Pictures, a film house which has produced numerous films, VaMayaya Nhaka Ndeyani? will be launched at Charles Austin Theatre in the city centre. The film is also marketed and distributed by P and P Global Marketing. Tickets will be available at Charles Austin Theatre at $2 and VIP $5.
The unveiling of the much-anticipated film will also be accompanied by the launch of singles by Masvingo’s award winning  and NAMA award nominee musician Tinashe Nhukarume, also known as Nash.
“The story is a satire which indirectly mirrors critical issues to do with inheritance in the society. It uses comedy to bring into perspective serious issues such as factionalism for national consideration,” said Munganasa in an interview with TellZim News.
This film is brought to life by a galaxy of versatile actors and actresses. Leading the pack is Denis Rusoso who plays the character of VaMayaya. Rusoso is a veteran actor who rose to fame after only appearing for seven minutes in a role in Sabhuku Vharazipi where he featured as Officer Mayaya. Complimenting Rusoso is Ngonie Chinovava who plays the role of Muzukuru and Rosemary Zivanai who plays the role Jacob’s wife Lillian. The film also features some prominent actors and personalities such as popular Zim dancehall singer Ras Caleb, Uncle Jaunda, Tinashe Nhukarume and NAMA award winner Nash Mpepo.
“In a bid to groom new talent, the film also introduces new actors such as Takudzwa Ponde who plays the role of Obama, an uptown boy who accidentally ends up in the centre of the family chaos, as well as Florenco Masekesa who plays the role of the Funeral planner. Takudzwa and Florenco bring out a new feel which complements veteran actors such as Courage Murambadare who features as Jacob Mayaya,” added Munganasa.
The film is self funded in a bid to promote artistic expression and originality. The producer of the film, Mr Sydney Taivavashe, “Sometimes sponsors make unnecessary demands which limit the writer or director’s artistic imagination. For example the sponsor might push to have certain themes or issues included in the storyline,” said the producer Sydney Taivavashe.news

Zimbabwe Assemblies of God (ZAOGA) Bishop and founder of Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU), Apostle Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti is set to visit Chiredzi for the first time in 16 years, TellZim News is reliably informed.
The accomplished Bishop last visited the sleepy lowveld town in 2000 though his wife, Apostle Eunor Guti made another visit in 2005.
Overseer Clemence Manyono confirmed the visit, saying Apostle Guti will grace Chiredzi together with his wife.
“The Apostles will grace Chiredzi on the first of May though we are expecting them earlier for the annual Deeper Life with all congregants before the Big Sunday which they will attend,” said Manyono.
“We are again ready to host the servant and apostle of God after such a long time of waiting. Now that he is coming together with mama, we are so happy and confident that Chiredzi will be power-packed,” he said.
Some ZAOGA congregants who spoke to TellZim News told this publication that Bishop Guti’s visit means a lot to them.
“We are really waiting for baba Guti and it’s an honour to have him here. We believe God is going to transform our lives through the servant and the apostle whom the Lord has consistently used to touch lives wherever he has been. I remember in the nineties when he prayed for the restoration of health. We saw genuine miracles happening,” said one church member.
“I remember when he came to Tshovani Stadium during the nineties. A lot of miracles happened, leaving the blind seeing, the lame walking and the deaf hearing,” said Christian Matsveru, another ZAOGA congregant.
The town’s Tshovani stadium is expected to be filled to the brim during the ‘mega’ big Sunday where Bishop Guti is expected to deliver a sermon.news

“The event is a call for a positive existence in an evil and uncaring world,” said Captain Bhafu.
He added that the focus will be on the future of the youth with lessons about living a Godly life, right channels to marriage and many other topics that affects today’s youths such as peer pressure.
Major Isaac Mhembere, the Divisional Commander of Masvingo urged all those who might be interested in joining the church services to be disciplined and not to come to cause confusion.

Masvingo family appeals for help for son’s heart surgery

0

Theresa Takafuma
For 13-year-old Tafadzwa Manyenga, life has been all about getting in and out of hospital since he was five years old, when he suddenly developed a heart problem that has seen his family accumulating a hospital debt of over $3000.
Whilst his peers are already in Form One, Tafadzwa has not yet started Grade One as he can hardly walk due to a heart ailment which doctors say needs an operation. The operation has since been slated for the 26th of April this year.
His mother, Makashava Chaputsira (36) says Tafadzwa spends a month and a half to two months for at least three times a year because of his heart condition, and this has been a very difficult situation for the family both financially emotionally.
"We live in the Sell Camp resettlement area under Chief Charumbira and the nearest hospital where he can be treated is Masvingo General Hospital, so many times he is admitted for monitoring by the doctors," Chaputsira said.
"Sometimes he is referred either to Mpilo Hospital or Harare Hospital and at both hospitals I have an equal debt of about $1520, whilst I also owe Masvingo General Hospital over $1500," said Chaputsira with tears welling in her eyes.
Chaputsira produced text messages she receives from the hospitals reminding her of the debt.
One of the messages read: "MANYENGA TAFADZWA you're given 24hrs to pay $1,011.20 owed to Harare Hospital. refTW 1210 at No. 66 McChlery Ave, Eastlea to avoid being taken to court."
Chaputsira said her husband does gold panning and can hardly afford to put food on the table for Tafadzwa's four siblings, making it nearly impossible for them to raise $600 that is needed for him to be operated before the end of this month.
Tafadzwa cannot do without medication, towards which his mother said she has to fork at least US$21 per month for the pills only. She also has to regularly pay for injections.
"There are three categories of pills needed at a time with the cost being $9, $7 and $5 respectively. This has taken a toll over the livelihood of the family. My school-going children's fees are paid by the church as we cannot afford it," she said.
"From 2010 to date, that has been our lifestyle and a bit of relief came when we were told that he needs to be operated in October 2015, but still we could not afford the bills," the visibly distraught mother said.
Chaputsira added she was advised to give Tafadzwa a special diet of cabbages, Mazoe Orange Crush and fruits to help keep him out of hospital in order to avoid accumulating hospital bills.
She said her three-year-old daughter, Tafadzwa’s sister, is more familiar with the hospital environment than home as she often has to accompany her and Tafadzwa on their numerous hospital visits.
Tafadzwa's family only hopes for a change after his operation, which his mother said will be a turning point if all goes well.news

Nyaningwe Supermarkets unveils $15K for RCZ Varume Bhora tourney

The Director of Nyaningwe Supermarkets, Setfree Mapuvire made a surprise gift to the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) soccer lovers when he dedicated US$15 000 towards this year’s tournament which was held in Gokwe recently.
Tournament organiser David Masomere said he was amazed by the commitment shown by the Mapuvire family towards the growth of sport and uniting people in the church through soccer.
“The technical department and everybody else are amazed by this act of generosity from the Mapuvire family. Over the years, the family has been consistent in its support for evangelism through sport and it seems there is always something for us from them,” said Masomere.
Masomere revealed that the latest gesture brings Mapuvire’s total contribution towards the tournament to a whopping US$60 000.
“In these economically challenging times when bigger national tournaments are facing problems, you are at loss of words when somebody displays such kind of goodwill,” added Masomere.
He said his team is now geared for the Gungano Guru knock out tournament to be held at different venues on May 21 and 22.
“The knock out round has 24 teams that will battle it out in the finals to be held in Masvingo. The draw is set for 8 May in Seke.
“In the finals, the church decided to include students from Henry Murray School of the Deaf and Capota School of the Blind to participate as curtain raisers.
“Our aim is to promote inclusivity in the country by demonstrating that disability is not inability,” Masomere said.sport

An 18-year old ex-Gathsmine FC player and former student at Bere Secondary School is flying high after joining Kariba-based premier league outfit, ZPC Kariba following the demise of his former Division One club.
Tatenda Mugoniwa, who finished his ‘A’ Level last year and started his football career playing for Gaths Mine FC before the club pulled out of the race owing to financial constraints, signed a two year contract with ZPC Kariba early this year.
Speaking to TellZim News Mugoniwa described his move to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Kariba giants as a dream come true because of hard work on the pitch.
“It has always been my dream to play in the country’s most competitive league, something which I have just managed to achieve through hard work at my former club,” said Mugoniwa.
He said he is inspired by his brother Hillary Mugoniwa who plays for Chapungu FC and is looking forward to a bright future ahead of his career in the PSL.
“I am finally settling down here, and I know with hard work and team work, my future in the PSL is very bright”, said Mugoniwa.
Samuel Jakata who facilitated the young player’s move to his new club expressed confidence in Mugoniwa’s potential to impress.
“Having noticed the talent that the boy has I saw it fit to give the young star an opportunity to prove himself and I know that he will do it at ZPC Kariba.
“The passion to play the game runs in their family with Hillary having broken the ice with his move to Chapungu, which I facilitated.” Jakata added.sport

Tongaat partnership revives CSC

0
Increase Gumbo
Sugar processing giant, Tongaat Hullett has entered into a ten-year lease agreement with the Cold Storage Commission (CSC), a public/private partnership which is expected to revive production at Chiumburu Ranch, TellZim News has learnt.
The deal comes in the wake of the loss of 6000 cattle that succumbed to the effects of drought in the province this year.
Tongaat Hulett has since set aside US$2 million to purchase underfed cattle in surrounding villages for transfer to Chiumburu Ranch.
Speaking at the official handover of 100 cattle to CSC held at a Tongaat Hulett feedlot on Tuesday last week, Deputy Minister Responsible for Livestock in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation, Paddy Zhanda hailed Tongaat Hulett for the good gesture.
“Tongaat Hulett did a great job and if it wasn’t for their timely intervention, we could have lost more than 15 000 cattle in Masvingo Province due to the drought,” said Zhanda.
Tongaat Hulett Managing Director, Sydney Mutsambiwa said they entered into partnership with CSC to lease the ranch in order to improve the national average beef carcass weight which has been on a gradual decline.
“The agreement will increase the genetic pool of beef breeds and priority will be given to the preservation and improvement of indigenous breeds and use of indigenous trees such as acacia pods and Mopani leaves in cattle feeding,” said Mutsambiwa.
The lease agreement requires Tongaat Hulett to pay 10 per cent of all heifers weaned each season from progeny off-breeding cows to CSC as rentals.
CSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ngoni Chinogaramombe said the heifers would be given to ten cattle ranchers in Mwenezi in order to increase their breeding base and the farmers will have to pay for them over a period to be determined.news

Gutu councillor fires social worker for supporting MDC

0
Memory Rasa
Gutu Ward 21 councillor, Jephas Mutizwa has fired a voluntary social worker for allegedly donating a goat that was slaughtered at a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) rally held at Dewure Township in February this year.
Silence Motowenyoka, who has been working with the Ministry of Social Welfare as a child care volunteer for about two years, was fired from work a week after the rally was held.
“I was shocked to see Mutizwa at my home telling me to return the phone and the bicycle I received from UNICEF because I was no longer needed by the community. When I asked the reason, he told me that Ward Development Officers were complaining that they were having difficulties working with me.
“He also accused me of selling out saying I had donated a goat to the MDC-T. I was hurt because I never contributed anything at the rally. I do not own any goats,” said Motowenyoka.
Motowenyoka also said the grudge started when he refused to add Mutizwa’s predecessor and businessman at Dewure Township, Obert Tagutanazvo on the Social Welfare’s list of beneficiaries of maize meal.
“He gave me a number of business people and pensioners to include on the ward’s list of needy people and when I refused, he told me that I was a sell out and would be fired,” added Motowenyoka.
When conducted for comment, Mutizwa denied the allegations saying Motowenyoka was dismissed for failing to cooperate with other community development volunteers.
“I dismissed him because he was not conducting the food distributions well. The community did not need his services any more. In fact, he used to corruptly put his own name on the list of beneficiaries and he also wanted to be paid for voluntary work,” said Mutizwa.
Social workers fall under the Social Welfare ministry, and not under the rural district council, and it remains unclear if a councillor has any right to dismiss a social worker.
Though no official comment could be obtained from the ministry, an inside source told TellZim News that there was a letter written by the councillor explaining why the child care worker was to be fired.news

CBAP takes anti-GBV message to Muzokomba

0

Siyabonga Say
The Community Based Aid Programme (CBAP), a Christian non-profit making organisation recently conducted a capacity building workshop in Muzokomba area in Buhera on Gender Based Violence (GBV) calling for an end to all forms of the vice.
The two-day workshop saw members of the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) and other community members being trained to be GBV advocates and counselors.
CBAP Field Officer Samuel Mafa encouraged trainees to work closely with people in their communities and other interested parties in the fight against GBV.
“We must take advantage of every gathering to further the anti-GBV agenda, let’s partner health workers and the police appropriately to end that social vice,” said Mafa.
One of the trainees who is a deacon at Muzokomba RCZ, Cosmas Chikonda, expressed confidence that the war against GBV and other social problems can be won if people are given knowledge.
“We need this kind of education in communities like ours where we have largely ignored the effects of GBV on community development and the well-being of families. I now realise the duty that we all have as ambassadors of the anti-GBV effort,” said Chikonda.
He urged church leaders to use their influence to tell men not to abuse their wives as that will go a long way in cultivating social cohesion.
CBAP Director Samuel Mhungu said his organisation aims to take the message to religious leaders and their congregants as they form an important part of opinion leaders.
So far, CBAP has conducted awareness campaigns and training workshops in various areas like Muchakata, Mapanzure and Zimuto, and aims to take the campaign to more communities across the country.news
